Toxic Splenda Essentials Falsely Marketed to Health-Conscious Consumers

Executed as a tactic to trick consumers, the Corn Refiners Association in 2010 decided to rename high-fructose corn syrup to ‘corn sugar’ as it would appear on food labels. The change was contrived by the organizations in response to millions of consumers recognizing the negative health consequences associated with the ingredient. Now, another sinister product is being marketed to the public differently, also because millions of consumers are recognizing the harm surrounding its consumption.

Splenda has been sold as a no calorie sweetener for years, and for years those who use it have been suffering from health consequences. Sucralose, sold under the brand name Splenda, is nothing but chlorinated sugar. While sugar itself is leading to numerous health complications, chlorine is employed as a biocide in bleach, disinfectants, and insecticides. Needless to say, consuming this chlorocarbon is ruining your health.

Instead of Splenda rightfully discontinuing their toxic creation, they have decided to make it sound even better for consumers. Splenda Essentials, a product being pushed on ‘health-conscious’ individuals, is packed full of vitamins and nutrients such as B vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. Unfortunately, you would need to consume inconceivable amounts for any positive health impact. Even if you were to benefit at all from the added vitamins, you are still consuming the highly toxic sucralose.

According to a Duke University study, Splenda has been shown to cause digestive imbalance by altering the microflora in the intestine while exerting other adverse effects. Nearly 200 studies have been conducted on Splenda, but only 10 percent (15 studies) looked at safety. 13 of those studies were funded by the creators of Splenda.

In “The Lethal Science of Splenda, a Poisonous Chlorocarbon,” Dr. Bowen explains how chlorocarbons like sucralose can cause cancer, birth defects, and immune system destruction. He goes on to say:

“Any chlorocarbons not directly excreted from the body intact can cause immense damage to the processes of human metabolism and, eventually, our internal organs. The liver is a detoxification organ which deals with ingested poisons. Chlorocarbons damage the hepatocytes, the liver’s metabolic cells, and destroy them.”

Unfortunately there is a high chance that you could fall victim to these negative health consequences even if you don’t use Splenda. Sucralose has been shown to be contaminating much of the nations waste water, surface water, and ground water. To determine the degree of its presence, researchers analyzed water samples from 19 US drinking water treatment plants (DWTP) which serve more than 28 million people. Sucralose was found in source water of 15 out of 19 water samples, finished water of 13 out of 17, and distribution system water of 8 out of 12.
Most people already familiar with what it takes to achieve optimal health won’t fall for Splenda’s marketing ploy, but the company may very well get high response from the majority of consumers.

    Although I do agree that any sweetner not matter what the color: white, blue, pink, green or Yellow, can have adverse affects on the body, I don’t agree with all that is written here.

    I studied many research articles on Splenda and sucralose and found it to be relatively less harmful than the other artifical sweetners except those made from the stevia plant. Yes, Splenda is a sugar molecule with a chlorine atom stuck on it and a hydrogen atom taken off, but for the most part it is undetectable by the system and you excrete it in your urine. Having said that, I am not promoting the abusive nature of our society where we have to have everything in excess.
    3 sugars with the coffee in the am, a packet on our oatmeal, 3 more in the afternoon with our coffee, a diet coke made with sweetner for lunch or a mid day snack and then another diet soda with dinner. Oh yeah, and then that is every day for 395 days a year. That can really add up!
    So, I am not promoting that type of abuse. Even if it was regular sugar that would be in excess and too much for the body to process every day for a year. That is why we are an obese nation.
    But with Moderation, all foods can be accepted into the system and Splenda has a place in there as well. So, when you mention one side to a story, always mention the other side and then let the reader derive what he or she thinks makes the most sense.

      Point made for the “other side of the story”, but I think most of the people who click to read this article will already be at least somewhat wary of Splenda products and/or artificial sweeteners in general. We get bombarded with the “other side” of this issue on a daily basis by the manufacturers via digital and print media trying to push this garbage down our throats and lying to our faces about it being “healthy” through the dirty marketing tactics highlighted by this article. I think we need more pieces like this one in mainstream media to reach the uninformed on this subject. I’ve seen the new “corn sugar” TV spots where they smugly make their claims and hope most viewers buy into the propaganda for their rebranded poison packets.

      To borrow from a similar article from this website, “The Bitter Sweet Truth About Splenda”: Sucralose/Splenda is produced through artificially substituting three hydroxyl groups (hydrogen + oxygen) with three chlorine atoms in the sugar (sucrose) molecule. Natural sugar is a hydrocarbon built around 12 carbon atoms. When transformed into Splenda it becomes a chlorocarbon, in the same family as deadly pesticides like DDT, insecticides, biocides, disinfectants like Chlorox Bleach, and WWI poison gas like dichlorourea.

      You are entitled to your opinion and free to make your own choices, but you can’t argue with the scientific, evidence-based facts against Splenda. Why even risk putting such unnatural stuff in your body in the first place? Personally I think Splenda tastes nasty anyway – I’ll stick with my stevia and avoid the health problems down the road.

  • I took splenda for a while. I thought it was a great choice in the beginning. My weight would not go down. I ended up bloated all the time. I started having Rectal Bleeding. I also was seeing a pulmonoligist with some bad Lung problems. I was taking every Asthma Medication and allergy medication there was. I had some of the worst allergies develop and to a lot of food substances including ALL corn products. I was treated for the allergies with and stopped using splenda. I stopped being treated with Modern medicine and stuck to Alternative treatments and am happy I did. I am now a person that when I tell this story, people can’t even believe it.

  • Since then I had switched to Stevia and that was truly wonderful. Now I don’t use any sweetener at all. You can say Splenda is good or bad if you want. You can show me calculations and lab results. I can tell you a classic “How To Lie With Statistics.” Sometimes, it doesnt matter what they say, Its the truth that is important. Why don’t the makers of the product take it for themselves. I will not believe that the are dumb enough to do so. If I knew it was poison, I wouldn’t take it either.
