And this study found that supplementing with ALA can help reduce inflammatory reactions associated with multiple sclerosis. Additionally, lipoic acid helps to safeguard against heavy metal toxicity. Chelating arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury, ALA renders the metals inactive and safely expels them from the body. An animal study in Toxicology also found that ALA shielded the liver against arsenic exposure. [1] Likewise, research has verified the protective properties of lipoic acid against mercury poisoning. Dosage and use

    Alpha Liponsaeure was tranlated to English as Alpha Lipoic acid.
    Once the chemical structure became known it was renamed to thioctic acid: a molecule with 2 sulphydral (SH groups) eight carbon atoms (octic) terminated by a carboxyl (COOH group) that provided an acid character. This molecule is very valuable: it reduces Pyruvic Acid (Brenztrauben Saeure) by picking up 2 H+ atoms and tranporting them into the Krebs Cycle (citric acid cycle) where ATP (energy) is generated. Then it is recycled. The molecule is large enough not to be lost via excretion. The SH Groups, however, bind very avidly to (toxic) heavy metals and by doing so are not any longer able to contribute to cellular energy production but form a “toxic dump ” in the organism.
    To liberate and rejuvenate thioctic acid requires homeopathic substances and detoxification rather than adding more potential toxin receptors.
