Organic sugar is marginally better for us than refined non-organic sugar but it is still sugar and thus has health risks. Sugar has been linked to: increased insulin levels, obesity, dental caries, diabetes, energy slumps, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, premature ageing, and sugar will also affect our immune system.

A common insecticide used in the growing of sugar cane crops is imidacloprid which is said to have a low to moderate toxicity “rating” from the manufacturers that created it. This is based on how it affects mammals and how easily it disperses in water and soiI. Imadicloprid has been stated to be one of the most toxic insecticides to bees and as such is said to be instrumental in the bee malady called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). It is also stated, and this theory I tend to lean more toward, is that CCD stems from a multi-toxic effect caused by a combination of factors with imadacloprid and other insecticides playing a small part of a much bigger toxic picture. Pesticides, Herbicides, Fungicides, and other chemicals have never been tested for their cumulative or mixed properties.

The Hierarchy of Healthicine

What is health? What is healthiness?

There are a few definitions of health. Search anywhere for healthiness – and you will find yourself re-directed to ‘health’. What about Healthicine? Medicine is well defined, but no dictionary defines healthicine. A PhD of Health Sciences does not study health, nor science. Health Science is the study of ‘health administration’ – administration of hospitals and other centers for the sick. Healthicines are the arts and sciences of health and healthiness.

Why don’t we have a science of healthiness? Why are there no experts in healthicine? Spring is here, it’s time for some changes. It’s time to move health to the forefront. It’s time to wake up to healthicine. To put illness, behind and beneath healthiness and unhealthiness. When we explore the sciences of healthiness – we will see illness in a new light.

Natural Remedies for Headaches

By Jordan & Kyla Miller

Headaches are an extremely common complaint in our society, and are often treated with “quick fix” pain medication. In fact, over half a billion dollars is spent annually on this type of remedy. What is in these drugs and are they doing us more harm than good? Are there more effective and natural remedies we can use to alleviate headaches?

Ingredients in Conventional Headache Medication

There are two main ingredients in the leading headache medications. These are Acetylalicylic Acid and Acetaminophen. Today, an estimated 80,000 tons of these two ingredients are being consumed each year.

The main side effects of Acetylalicylic Acid can include, but are not limited to: gastrointestinal ulcers, stomach bleeding, severe abdominal or stomach cramps/pain/discomfort, heartburn or indigestion, bruising, confusion, dizziness, fainting, nausea or vomiting, buzzing or ringing in ears, tiredness or weakness, loss of hearing, allergic reaction, bleeding, etc.

A woman from New Zealand who reportedly drank as much as 2.6 gallons of Coca-Cola per day to fuel her ‘Coke addiction’ has died, and experts are saying that her serious craving for pop was a major contributor. The news could not come at a worse time for Coca-Cola, who has already been hit by both government bodies and consumers alike for their cancer-linked beverage. In fact, the Coca-Cola company made an emergency recipe change in March to remove an ingredient known as 4-methylimidazole (4-MI or 4-MEI) that would have required a cancer warning labeling to be slapped onto the soft drink.

Lime & Sunlight Naturally Purify Water, Could Solve Global Water Crisis

By Anthony Gucciardi

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

Natural sunlight and a slice of lime could potentially be the answer to the global water crisis, affecting millions of individuals worldwide who do not have access to water filtration services. Found to effectively remove all detectable levels of harmful bacteria such as E. coli, sunlight and lime work together as powerful disinfectants. Perhaps the most amazing part is that it only takes 30 minutes for this effect to take place, making it extremely fast as well.

The news could also prove useful for many first world citizens, who may not have access to water purification systems while traveling or even just looking to reduce their bacteria content in local water. While certainly no substitute for a powerful reverse osmosis or carbon filter with regards to the removal of heavy metals and other chemicals, the health-promoting combination can aid any water supply. In fact, adding lime or enjoying water with lemon is an extremely effective way to fight unwanted fat and boost your immunity.

Blamed for Bee Collapse, Monsanto Buys Leading Bee Research Firm

20th April 2012

Monsanto, the massive biotechnology company being blamed for contributing to the dwindling bee population, has bought up one of the leading bee collapse research organizations. Recently banned from Poland with one of the primary reasons being that the company’s genetically modified corn may be devastating the dying bee population, it is evident that Monsanto is under serious fire for their role in the downfall of the vital insects. It is therefore quite apparent why Monsanto bought one of the largest bee research firms on the planet.

It can be found in public company reports hosted on mainstream media that Monsanto scooped up the Beeologics firm back in September 2011. During this time the correlation between Monsanto’s GM crops and the bee decline was not explored in the mainstream, and in fact it was hardly touched upon until Polish officials addressed the serious concern amid the monumental ban. Owning a major organization that focuses heavily on the bee collapse and is recognized by the USDA for their mission statement of “restoring bee health and protecting the future of insect pollination” could be very advantageous for Monsanto.

Rice accounts for 80% of the total calories consumed by half of the world’s population.

This makes rice a very important crop to look at as far as its impact both on the health of the planet and ourselves. Besides the chemicals used in crops like insecticides and herbicides, another practice used on conventionally grown rice is fumigation. According to The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) on January 14th, 2012, “…Sulfuryl fluoride is currently also registered in Australia as a fumigant to control insects in buildings and other structures including those used for storage of some food commodities.” It is not necessary to remove the food before treatment.

After the Nepalese government decided to allow Monsanto into their borders and subsequently force farmers to use genetically modified seeds, the citizens took to the streets. The starving nation let Monsanto in despite recent and massive bans in a number of EU countries. In addition, Monsanto’s GMO crops have been shown by a team of 900 scientists to be virtually ineffective at combating starvation — in fact, they perform way worse than traditional and sustainable agriculture.

The Medicinal Properties of Dandelion

By Jordan & Kyla Miller

Contributing Writers for Wake Up World

While many people view the dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) as a pesky weed, many herbalists consider it to be a valuable herb for food and medicine. The dandelion is rich in vitamin A, B, C, and E as well as minerals such as iron, potassium calcium and zinc. Hundreds of species of dandelion grow in the temperate regions around the world.

The Dandelion is a hardy perennial that can grow to a height of nearly 12 inches. They have deeply notched, toothy, spatula-like leaves that are shiny and hairless which help funnel rain into the root and the stems are capped by bright yellow flowers. Contrary to what we have been told, dandelions offer us many health promoting nutrients.

Top Scientist: Fluoride Already Shown to Cause 10,000 Cancer Deaths

By Anthony Gucciardi

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

Water fluoridation is a highly controversial topic, with many individuals voicing massive concern over the practice. In contrast, some stick to the concept that there isn’t any association between fluoride and any real negative effects. Fluoride, however, is indeed a toxic substance, and has been tied with numerous health complications in well-established research. Fluoride can be found in many water supplies, toothpaste, and even food at alarming levels. While it may sound shocking to many, some research is even drawing a close connection between fluoride and an increased cancer risk.

Heartburn is a burning sensation we often feel in our stomach and /or chest. Symptoms sometimes include bloating, gas, nausea, shortness of breath, and/or an acidic or sour taste in the throat and mouth. Regular or constant heartburn is a common symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

With GERD, the acidic contents of the stomach flows back into your esophagus, which can irritate the delicate lining of the esophagus and cause pain. Heartburn (acid reflux) affects more than 60 million American adults at least once a month; 25 million of which, suffer from it daily. Based on these figures, it is quite obvious that we have a real epidemic on our hands.
