Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Turmeric – Nature’s Powerhouse of Wellbeing

15th June 2016

If there has ever been one plant that “does it all”, turmeric (Curcuma longa), seems the perfect candidate. Its many health benefits and applications fill entire libraries: a search for “turmeric” on Web of Science returned 6.681 hits, and a search for “curcumin”, turmeric’s best known constituent, yielded a whopping 28.122 papers. At point of writing, the Cochrane Library holds 94 publications of controlled clinical trials involving turmeric: whoever says that knowledge of its health benefits is ficticious or anecdotal at best, has accomplished a high degree of ignorance. Even more so since turmeric has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes in Asia for over 6000 years (Hutchins-Wolfbrandt & Mistry 2011) – Western science today only confirms what people have naturally known and practiced for millennia (Goel et al. 2008). In the past two decades, turmeric and curcumin have been extensively studied for their therapeutic benefits as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, renoprotective, immunomodulatory, cancer chemopreventive, antidepressant, and neuroprotective agent (Pakfetrat et al. 2014, Chuengsamarn et al. 2012).

Life and the Secrets of Water

By Dr. Edward Group

Every system in the body depends on water. [1] Enzyme production, digestion, detoxification, even the beating of your heart are all processes that require water. Water is a solvent for minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients. Water is essential for the elimination of waste. Water is involved with everything and there’s a good reason “drink more water” is advice that’s frequently dispensed.

Will Mushroom-Based Materials Replace Plastic With an Eco-Friendly Twist?

14th June 2016

By Carolanne Wright

As we well know, plastic is a serious issue throughout the world today. It takes hundreds — sometimes thousands — of years to biodegrade, releases toxic materials into the environment and harms marine wildlife. The problem is so dire that scientists believe plastic waste in the ocean will outnumber fish by 2050. We are literally unloading a dump truck full of plastic into the sea every minute. Not only does this toxic waste hurt wildlife and the environment, but it also makes its way into the food chain — and ends up on our dinner plates. Chemicals in plastics are linked with a spectrum of human health disorders, spanning from endocrine imbalances to cancer and heart disease.

Recycling the material is sketchy at best and even corn-based biodegradable plastics come with their own set of drawbacks. But it’s naive to think the material will disappear all together. What we need is an eco-friendly solution that will serve the purpose of plastic without consuming an inordinate amount of resources or displace the food supply. The answer might just be found in the most incredible of places: fungus roots.

The Art of Dream Meditation

13th June 2016

By Steafan Fox

I use Meditation like an exercise routine where the muscle I am trying to develop is my focus. I sit down cross legged and hold my focus onto one thing, repeatedly lifting it back to my goal every time I slip into distraction. I am like a bodybuilder doing biceps curls.

I practice this way because it’s said that a powerful focus is the only thing you need to evolve the mind. I am fascinated by this idea, and I am not the first. Many people throughout history have searched for ways to evolve the mind. The practitioners of activities like education, drug taking, yoga, puzzles, and philosophy all hope on some level that these activities will work.

In this article we are going to look at a meditation technique called Active Imagination that uses dreams and focused meditation to evolve the mind, and we are going to look at the psychologist who pioneered it — Carl Jung.

6 Ways to Overcome the Global Conspiracy

13th June 2016

By Makia Freeman

Although there is a worldwide conspiracy, dark forces control the world and things look bleak, you ultimately have the power to overcome all of that. This article is written for those who object to the insane world around us and want to help change it for the better…

1. Choose Love not Fear

Love not fear is at the heart of any solution to overcoming the conspiracy of control or the NWO (New World Order) which has grown in the darkness around us. It may sound trite, it may sound hippie-ish, it may sound soppy, but that is only if you don’t recognize and have forgotten the power of love. The truth is that love is the most powerful force in the Universe. Love = power. They are one and the same thing. There’s nothing soppy about power. When you love, a powerful energy flows through your body and emanates strongly from you. Your heart pumps excitedly and enthusiastically, elevating your mood as the rightful leader of your body. Love is power, and the powerful cannot be deceived or controlled.

Living with Kundalini – Bringing You Alive Again

12th June 2016

Kundalini is the entirely natural phenomenon of life force — flowing ‘down’ from the source, into sentient life, animating it, and then connecting back to the source once more. It’s like a circuit of electricity, and when you’re fully plugged into it, then it brings you fully alive.

In society most have been disconnected from it, for a vast variety of reasons, from the processed foods that cause disharmonious internal vibrations, to electrosmog and distorted behaviourisms that cut across the natural flow. It leads to a lesser life-style, where you’re constantly searching for something but have forgotten exactly what it is you were originally looking for.

Well, it’s time to come alive again!

5 Powerful Psychedelics That Treat Mental Disorders and Change Human Consciousness by Reorganizing the Brain

12th June 2016

By Michael Forrester

Guest writer for Wake Up World

Psychoactive plants and hallucinogens have given us the opportunity to see life through different perspectives for thousands of years. Many of these plants, which can only be defined as gifts from nature, have unfortunately been declared illegal in many parts of the world due to the ignorance and intolerance of many governments. As the shift in consciousness is accelerating across the planet, more people are accepting the true power of psychedelics with unprecedented potential to treat cancers, addictions, psychological traumas, but most of all, to reorganize the brain and shift thought patterns. It is now imperative for human consciousness that we free psychedelics from scrutiny and demonization, so that we may all use these plants responsibly to facilitate a greater awareness of non-secular concepts that are changing our world.

Whose Voice Are You Listening To?

11th June 2016

By Juliet Tang

Guest writer for Wake Up World

Throughout my life, there had been no short supply of voices coming from both outside and inside of me pulling me in different directions. Sometimes the voice was gentle like a whisper from a lover, sometimes it was harsh and demanding especially when confronted with a fight or flight situation. The voices took on different roles such as the soother, the sergeant, the seductress, the teacher and they knew exactly when their presence was required. Most of them functioned on autopilot that I never truly stopped and questioned the origins of these voices until my awakening.

As if having woken up from a dream after a long night, I suddenly noticed not all voices were created equal, that is, some of them clearly did not have my best interest at heart despite the fact they all claimed they were looking after me.

In the Absence of the Village, Mothers Struggle Most

11th June 2016

By Beth Berry

Dear Mothers,

I’m writing you today because I can no longer contain the ache in my gut and fire in my heart over an injustice that you and I are bearing the brunt of.

Though this injustice is affecting everyone — men, women, and children alike — mothers not only feel its burden more than most, but we also feel disproportionately responsible for alleviating its pervasive and deeply damaging symptoms, which is adding hugely to the weight of the world we’re already wired to carry.

The injustice is this: It takes a village, but there are no villages.

The Link Between Nightshades, Chronic Pain and Inflammation

10th June 2016

By Elisha McFarland N.D.

Few people are familiar with the term nightshade vegetables, and many will be surprised to learn that consuming foods from this plant group may be contributing to their pain and inflammation.

Nightshades belong to the Solanaceae family which includes over 2,000 species. They also include some of the most popular foods consumed today; such as tomatoes, potatoes, all types of peppers, and eggplant. Although not truly nightshades, blueberries, huckleberries, goji berries and ashwaganda all share the same inflammation-inducing alkaloids.
