Easy Dessert Recipe – Varya’s Old Fashioned Lemon Squares

10th October 2014

By Varya Kapran

This is hands-down one of my favourite recipes of all time. In fact, I made it every weekend for the last four weeks until I perfected it for you. That’s how thoughtful I am! I sat there eating try after tray of them until I knew I had the recipe I could proudly stand behind.

So today I present my Old Fashioned Lemon Squares recipe. These bars have a delicious tangy tartness to them, a soft texture, and a “browned butter” crust. Made with simple organic ingredients, they’re easy to make and great to share, so if you are making a batch, be sure to invite some family and friends over to share the love.

Love, Varya

PBDEs Decrease IQs in Children

10th October 2014

By Dr. Edward F. Group

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

PBDE is a chemical flame retardant that was widely used in a number of common consumer products, including couches, carpet padding, and electronics, between the 1970s and early 2000s. The chemical compound can enter the human body through food or through the inhalation of household dust, and exposure in pregnant women may be harmful to developing fetuses.

Three separate prospective studies now link polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDEs) to children’s impaired performance on neurodevelopmental tests, and evidence from all three studies strongly suggests that PBDEs are developmental neurotoxicants.

The Effects of PBDEs on Children

The latest study on PBDEs which looked at a birth cohort of 309 pregnant women between 2003 and 2006 near Cincinnati, Ohio, followed the developmental progress of the women’s children through age 5. Researchers found a statistically significant inverse relationship between BDE-47 (a type of PentaBDE) and the children’s IQ scores. [1] The first two studies, which took place in California and New York, found similar evidence of this inverse relationship.

How Solar Flares Directly Affect Human Consciousness

By Paul Lenda

Everything within this dense configuration of Reality that we call the Universe is interconnected. Through this interconnectedness, everything affects everything else. From the dawn of human spiritual experiences to present-day scientific discoveries, the reality of oneness and interconnectedness has continued to permeate as a recurring aspect of existence within the vastness of what we refer to as Reality. We are realizing, with a continuously-growing conviction, that change and transformation, whether it be in society, consciousness, or otherwise is directly affected by other elements of our universe; elements that we sometimes fail to realize have the ability to affect us in such transformational ways.

These connections, which many times are unable to be seen through the limited field of human awareness act as two-way portals and tunnels through which energy particles and fields travel through. This may seem like something out of a sci-fi story but has time and time again been proven to be a very genuine part of our reality. It was only in 2008 that it was publicly stated that there are magnetic portals that connect the sun’s magnetic field with the earth’s. A year earlier scientists uncovered an elaborate and vast web of cosmic filaments hundreds of millions of light years long that connect galaxies to each others. Not only are the sun and the earth linked with each other but so are galaxies light years upon light years away.

Distance is no obstacle for the interconnectedness of our universe.

How WHOLE Turmeric Heals the Damaged Brain

By Sayer Ji

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

Long considered impossible to accomplish, research reveals how a simple spice might contribute to the regeneration of the damaged brain.

Turmeric is hands down one of the, if not the, most versatile healing spice in the world with over 600 experimentally confirmed health benefits, and an ancient history filled with deep reverence for its seemingly compassionate power to alleviate human suffering.

But, most of the focus over the past decade has been centered on only one of its many hundreds of phytocompounds: namely, the primary polyphenol in turmeric known as curcumin which gives the spice its richly golden hue. This curcumin-centric focus has lead to the development of some very good products, such as phospholipid bound curcumin concentrate (e.g. Meriva, BCM-95) which greatly helps to increase the absorption and bio-activity of curcumin. But, curcumin isolates are only capable of conferring a part of turmeric’s therapeutic power – and therein lies the limitation and hubris of the dominant ‘isolate the active ingredient’ model.

The Power of Human Kindness

By Lorraine Ereira

Although I was brought up in a church-going family, I always struggled to understand or have any feeling for religion, or for the deity my parents felt so strongly about. I would attend church with them and look a round at the parishioners in their Sunday best, hushing their small children who squirmed in restless boredom, at the long drawn out sermon, and speeches designed to make us both love and fear The Almighty, in equal amounts.

But I always felt like a small insignificant figure in a crowd who just didn’t fit in. I didn’t feel the love or the fear I was supposed to feel. Then I would worry that god would punish me for not feeling what I was meant to feel, but I just couldn’t make it happen. At the time I thought maybe it would come with maturity, that all this indoctrination would later make sense, and I would feel that light bulb moment, when all my Sundays of sitting on uncomfortable pews would suddenly pay off and I would be enlightened and embraced by The Almighty.

Well, that never happened, at least not in the way I thought it would.

The Full Moon in Aries – The Cosmic Gateway

Just when you thought the frequencies could not be more intense, we come across an energy pattern like this. It all comes down to this moment in which the reflections of the past and visions of the future are twined together in perfect synchronicity. We stand at an evolutionary gateway, overwhelmed with excitement yet anxious as the unknown approaches us.

Will you trust the universe and fall into the abyss? Will you follow your instincts and remember your connection to your inner vibration?

It is time to make a shift! It is time, once again, to raise the frequency of our consciousness. Transformation, transcendence and transmutation are available to us right now. It is time to step boldly into the new without holding onto the past.

Here are the planetary alignments helping us along the way…

Mercury Retrograde

Time for reflection.

Do You Have What It Takes to Ascend?

By Open

It’s a bit like falling off a log.

To some, embarking on the Spiritual Path, contemplating ascension into the Higher Paradigm, I know it can seem like a tall order, other-worldly, out-of-sight. People often ask me ‘do I have what it takes to ascend?’ The very fact that you’re asking the question suggests ‘Yes indeed!’ Anyone can ascend, specifically;

Continually evolving on an ascending vibration back to the Source.

Every soul is seeded to do this. In fact ascension is a bit like falling off a log. You just have to let go. Then anyone can do it (in fact it’s more like ‘undoing’). Although falling off that proverbial log can sometimes seem like a monumental leap of faith…

A Leap of Faith

Finding Our Peace: The Art of Loving Our Experience

By Phillip J. Watt

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

The usual tendency in our modern secular thinking is to view the outer world as separate from ourselves, but really it is just a partial reflection of what we fundamentally are. Objective reality is one of two pieces. Both pieces make up one whole. The other part is our subjective world, which are our feelings, thoughts and beliefs.

In this ancient and rebirthed understanding, we are realizing we are both the inner and outer worlds.

Now I could go into why quantum physics specifies that these two portions are inseparable, or why ancient wisdom and modern mystics say the same thing, but if we’re on this path we intuitively and possibly even logically know this already.

Instead, here I’m going to focus on what actually makes up our experience, as well as ways to find our peace by loving our experience, because it’s not always easy to accept and embrace all of what we perceive in life.

Trinity’s Cocoa ‘Soul Food’ Truffles Recipe (Vegan)

By Trinity Bourne

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

Every now and again we love to eat special treats here at Openhand. I’ve discovered, over the years, that the most delectable treats don’t have to involve complex instructions and loads of time – they can be quite simple.

When I create anything in the kitchen, I always make sure that I am creating it from a space of openheartedness and presence. In that way a naturally, beautiful energy infuses into the food; it tastes better; and often stirs an inner, wordless presence within others too.

I’d love to share one of my favourite recipes – something sweet and nurturing for the soul. It’s a recipe that I have tried and tested in many different shapes and forms for the best part of 15 years (how time flies when you are having fun in the kitchen!) and it has always been a real winner with just about everyone I know.

Not only is it absolutely delicious, it requires no baking. As with all of my recipes this has no dairy, no refined sugar and is made with the biggest heart full of love. The recipe itself is super quick to make, although you do need to remember to soak the nuts and dates ahead of time.
