Depression? Anxiety? Here are 3 Important Nutrients That Will Improve Your Mental Health

When I fell into a deep depression in 2010, I felt like I would never be able to escape it. Doctors made it seem that antidepressants and anxiety medications were my only options. That was it. I was left in the dark. I thought I had no other options and nowhere to turn, so I resorted to pharmaceuticals — which ultimately did not help.

Since then, I’ve travelled down a road of intense research and self-experimentation. I found solutions that weren’t conventional and mainstream, and I witnessed significant improvements in my mental health. I’ve learned many things along the way, and most importantly, I’ve learned that you don’t need drugs, the medical system or a doctor to overcome depression, anxiety and mental disturbance. What you need is to tap into the magnificent healing potential of your body — and, not surprisingly, nutrition plays a huge role in that healing process.

Depression and Anxiety are NOT Caused by a Lack of Serotonin!

Depression and Anxiety are NOT Caused by a Lack of Serotonin!

Depression has become an illness; something that you must go to the doctor to solve. The definition of depression, according to Psychology Today “is not a passing blue mood but rather persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. A complex mind/body illness, depression can be treated with drugs and/or therapy.”

Yet, as most who suffer depression know, taking antidepressants doesn’t solve the issue, it only places a blanket on the issue and numbs out our feelings.

Harvard professor Irving Kirsch writes of the “serotonin myth” in a peer reviewed paper entitled ‘Antidepressants and the Placebo Effect‘, which was based on many clinical trials. According to Kirsch, it’s not serotonin that affects depression at all: “The serotonin theory is as close as any theory in the history of science to having been proved wrong. Instead of curing depression, popular antidepressants may induce a biological vulnerability making people more likely to become depressed in the future.”

It’s Time to Free Ourselves from the Fear of Death!

It’s Time to Free Ourselves from the Fear of Death!

Look at us. From the moment we manage to form one coherent thought, we are indoctrinated with fear. Fear of strangers, fear of poison, fear of the dark, fear of doctors, fear of disease, fear of accidents, fear of bullies, fear of natural disasters, fear of school, fear of punishment, fear of failure, fear of heights, fear of elevators, and the all-present fear of death.

Someone dies? Oh, my. We read and hear about it ad nauseum. About their life, about their youth, about their last hours, about their loves, about their obsessions, about their secrets. We do not let them go. We keep them prisoner in our reality by constantly pouring energy in their now-past life.

Yet, the system of this simulation we are born into is obsessed with death. Nobody asks us if we want to be part of it; we are made part of it because our parents want to do the right thing, and it appears the right thing to do is to obtain a birth certificate because without it, we do not exist, and non-existence would, of course, be inconceivable to most. Such is the depth of deception that we rather be seen as corpses than turn our back on a structure that crushes everything alive.

The Evolutionary Purpose of the Ego

The Evolutionary Purpose of the Ego

We live here on this Earth, in the world of individual “Selves”. We dwell in the empire of seven billion separate and isolated Egos, and in the domain of the Ego we tend to forget about the Miracle of Consciousness. The Ego only pursues its own dreams and ambitions, and so it very often embitters our life.

We must face reality: there is a tyrannic “small ego” in everybody’s head, and this small ego keeps grumbling and complaining all the time. It is a dissatisfied, possessive ego that often makes our life a misery. It is for certain that this small ego – or, more precisely, what we believe is our Self, our Ego – coiled up tightly in the back of our mind, is responsible for a tremendous amount of senseless and unnecessary suffering and destruction in the history of mankind.

Making Any Kind of Art (at Any Skill Level) Reduces Stress Hormones

Whether you’re Van Gogh or a stick-figure sketcher, a new Drexel University study found that making art can significantly reduce stress-related hormones in your body.

Although the researchers from Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions believed that past experience in creating art might amplify the activity’s stress-reducing effects, their study found that everyone seems to benefit equally.

“It was surprising and it also wasn’t,” said Girija Kaimal, EdD, assistant professor of creative arts therapies. “It wasn’t surprising because that’s the core idea in art therapy: Everyone is creative and can be expressive in the visual arts when working in a supportive setting. That said, I did expect that perhaps the effects would be stronger for those with prior experience.”

Are You In An Abusive Relationship With Yourself?

Are You In An Abusive Relationship With Yourself?

Did you know that more than 20% of the global population is in an abusive relationship with a partner or family member? This sounds like a big number, until you consider that somewhere around 80% of the world’s population is in an abusive relationship with themselves – and most don’t even know it.

The Stranger in the Mirror is You!

The best way to see if you abuse yourself is to imagine that someone else is treating you the way you treat yourself. How would you feel if …

Your friend spoke to you, the way you speak to yourself?

Your significant other neglected you, the way you neglect yourself?

Your co-worker judged you, the way you judge yourself?

Change the Lens Through Which You View the World

Change the Lens Through Which You View the World

One of my favorite pieces of wisdom to live by is that our life is a reflection of the perspective we hold about it. When you look at the current state of your life, what does it reflect? What does it reflect about who you are and how you see yourself? Your relationships? Your work? Your hobbies? Your life purpose? Is your life a sequence of extraordinary moments strung together to make a richly diverse tapestry, or a mundane ordinary paint stroke on a bleak canvas day after day?

We do not need to be in any artificial state of bliss in every moment, but there is a difference between being alive and actually living life. So how are you living your life? Are the majority of your hours of each day joy-filled? Do you most often feel great, blissful and satisfied? Is there awe, wonder and excitement in how you live? Or is there a monotonous, frustrating, pessimistic, or lifeless and perhaps even angry or cynical pattern to your life?

You Are Depressed For a Reason… But It’s Not What You Think

You Are Depressed For a Reason… But It’s Not What You Think

Have you ever worked with someone who is good at their job but can never seem to see it? Has anyone ever paid you a compliment that you’ve dismissed because you didn’t believe them, or twisted to take it as an insult?

We all interact with the world on the basis of the reality in our heads. We each have a different version of reality that we live in. (Take the tale of the two dogs and a mirror, for instance.) This is the reason that you can’t be talked out of feeling depressed. You only hear and see things that match the reality in your head.

As a cognitive hypnotherapist, when a client sits in front of me for their first session they often say things like “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I have a good life, a good job and people who care about me. I should be happy.”

Should. It’s an interesting word isn’t it? It’s the biggest clue about what is going on…

Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself – Shifting From Fear to Love

Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself – Shifting From Fear to Love

Fear is running rampant on our world and it is blinding many to the inner guiding voice of their soul. It keeps us from creating a better world. We can all transcend our fears by embracing a few higher truths and increasing our awareness of a few important points.

A World of Fear

Our world is dominated by fear. Fear of terrorism, fear of getting old, fear of death, fear of cancer, fear of whatever — you name it. The mainstream media bombards us with bad news. Commercial interests play on our many insecurities and fears to sell products. Our fears are reflected in the wars we wage; the war on terror, the war on drugs, the war on you name it. Our fears are reflected in the themes and archetypes in our fiction — zombie apocalypse, alien invasion, end-of-the-world, good vs. evil, etc. Our fears are reflected subtlety and not so subtlety in all aspects of our lives and the world we create.

You’re Not a Mind Reader – Stop Worrying What Other People Think of You

Can you read minds?

Have you ever walked into a room and worried what people thought of you? I suspect most of us will, at some time or other in our lives, have worried what other people think of us.

Now let me ask the question a different way: Do you think that you are that important that when you walk in a room people only focus on you? It’s essentially the same question. And the craziest thing of all is that you can’t read minds, so you have no way of knowing what someone thinks of you!

Giving Yourself Permission – a Key to Relieving Depression!

Giving Yourself Permission – a Key to Relieving Depression!

By Nanice Ellis

Inside all of us are dreams of greatness, but these dreams are all too often suppressed because we fear disapproval or rejection from those around us, and sadly, many of us become depressed. Could it be that we never follow our dreams, or listen to our hearts, because we are waiting for others to give us permission, and we are too afraid to give it to ourselves?

If you look closely, you will see that withholding permission from yourself, or needing others to first give you permission, keeps you in a small box, and stops you from living the life you came here to live. If you look even closer, you will see that your happiness is dependent on giving yourself permission. If you don’t give yourself permission to speak up, express yourself or set boundaries, the consequence is, all too often, chronic depression.

Escaping the Matrix of Depression – The Truth About Depression Shall Set You Free

If life is meant to be joyful, why are we faced with a global pandemic of depression?

The combination of seven intense years as a crisis counselor in New York plus twenty years as an Awakening Life Coach allows me to offer you this insight – the truth about depression – and when you finally understand why you are depressed, you will have the power to free yourself from the invisible prison of disempowerment.

Firstly, do not let the “real” in reality fool you. Things are not what they seem to be. Despite how solid life appears, it is all just vibrating energy so perfectly choreographed that we can confidently call this dancing vibration “reality” or life. If you want to see the truth from a higher (more realistic) perspective, you will need to consider that it is our individual and collective Beliefs that turn vibration into tangible reality.
