If You Want To Accelerate Brain Development In Children, Teach Them Music

Music, the universal language of mood, emotion and desire, connects with us through a wide variety of neural systems.

We now know from controlled treatment/outcome studies that listening to and playing music is a potent treatment for mental health issues. 400 published scientific papers have proven the old adage that “music is medicine.” In fact, research demonstrates that adding music therapy to treatment improves symptoms and social functioning among schizophrenics. Further, music therapy has demonstrated efficacy as an independent treatment for reducing depression, anxiety and chronic pain.

Importantly, music education also appears to accelerate brain development in young children, particularly in the areas of the brain responsible for processing sound, language development, speech perception and reading skills, according to initial results of a five-year study by USC neuroscientists.

The School System: The Incarceration of Children

14th July 2016

By Razi Berry

CAFOs, also known as Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, are confined feedlots in which animals raised for food products are kept in confined prison-like conditions absent of natural vegetation. Here, animals are kept outside of their natural habitat and fed feed they would not eat in nature. The filthy conditions and poor nutrition make for sick animals, so the CAFOs depend heavily on antibiotics which are given prophylactically. Beef and dairy cattle, pigs, turkeys, and chickens are among the animals in the more than 257,000 AFOS in the United States.

Rather than eat native foods such as grasses, vegetation and insects, they are “fed” mostly genetically modified crops such as soy and corn, or cereal based feed made from these crops. Instead of eliminating waste naturally on the land, which acts as fertilizer, the waste is stored in anaerobic “lagoons”. These cesspools of waste emit carbon dioxide, methane and ammonia into the air and leach antibiotics, endocrine disruptors, heavy metals and bacteria into the land. Without going much further in to the devastating science of why CAFOs are bad for human and animal health, and our environment, it is safe to say that animals do best in their natural habitat, living, reproducing, eating and eliminating as nature intended, and that we as omnivores do best when eating food raised in its wild or natural habitat.

Americas Dirty Laundry: The Ongoing Genocide of the American Indian

“The love of possessions is a disease with them [Americans]. They take tithes from the poor and weak to support the rich who rule. They claim this mother of ours, the Earth, for their own and fence their neighbors away. If America had been twice the size it is, there still would not have been enough.”Sitting Bull

Knock. Knock. Knock. You open the door and see the armed Gestapo at your doorstep demanding you turn over the rights of your children and toddlers. They no longer belong to you as mandated by federal law. You see the fear in your toddler’s eyes as you are no longer capable of protecting them and are forced by law to give up your children to the police. They sit them on a bus to be shipped away to a school hundreds of miles away in which they will be trained to forget every value, tradition, and characteristic you have tried to teach. They will be disciplined with abuse, torture, starvation, and rape. If you ever see them again, they will not be the innocent child you once knew.

This did not happen in a far away land, this did not happen a long-long time ago. This happened in the “greatest country on Earth” in fairly recent history. This was the policy of the United States government in an effort to assimilate American Indian children in a boarding school system that peaked in the 1970’s.

Collective Awareness and Spiritual Evolution – Why a Rewrite of History is Needed

15th June 2016

By Peter Van Els

Guest writer for Wake Up World

An evolved future for mankind will only be possible if wise men would rewrite history, based upon newfound truths. Otherwise history keeps repeating itself, because mankind did not or will not learn from its recidivist mistakes.

True change is achieved with the realization that history is/was written by the victor, or the ones who hold on to a position of power, and the realization that history is twisted and biased. Every holy book has been manipulated, kept secret (i.e. the women’s status in holy books) to control the people.

There is no truth in lies and human beings are still lost, still roaming, being blind in the land of the blind. Large and ancient, cultivated civilizations like the Inca’s, the Aztecs, the Greek, the Romans, Spain and France’s world empires, these rich cultures were frequently destroyed by delusions of grandeur. As in the Renaissance en the enlightenment period thereafter, which was a very clarifying period where there was a latency to want to change in favor of the human race and for the inner well being of the latter.

How This Simple Educational Model Can Change the World

25th May 2016

“In the modern age of production and consumption, in the age of money and power, the meaning of education has become distorted. The Latin root of the word education – educare – means to ‘bring out’, whereas the present implication of the word education is to ‘put in’.” ~ Satish Kumar

America — and the world at large — is in crisis. From education to the environment and how we relate to one another, most would agree, something needs to change — and quickly. As overwhelming as this state of affairs can be, Satish Kumar, a former Jain monk, long-time peace activist and ecological champion believes we can radically re-establish balance to our planet and its inhabitants with one straightforward idea. The key to such a metamorphosis? Our educational system.

Why Education Must Come Back to Nature

By Will Stanton

“Unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can’t expect them to help protect and care for it.” – David Suzuki

Humanity has lost its connection with the Earth. As a species, we too easily distance ourselves from the war being waged on the environment. Most of us are opposed to the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and the oil pollution in our oceans, yet we continue to let it all happen. We care, but we don’t care enough to put a stop to all the madness. Why? Because we have lost touch with nature. Sadly, we do not feel the planet’s hurt. Her cries of protest are falling on deaf ears. For the most part, we have become anaesthetised by modern society and the trappings of economic pragmatism.

Common Core: Surveillance, Standardization, and the Sexualization of Children

By Makia Freeman

Common Core is the set of educational standards for American children which first came onto the scene in 2009, after Obama took office, using money from the $350 million stimulus package.

In another example of blatant doublespeak, the curricula are named “Common Core State Standards”, despite the fact they were forced onto the states with bribes, came top-down from the US Federal Government and were written by the international elite. Funded by Bill Gates, Common Core is another manifestation of a long-held dream of the New World Order manipulators to replace the family with the State — a plan laid out in novels such as Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, which included reference to State hatcheries (i.e. State control of reproduction).

Breaking the Spell of Our Cultural Imprisonment

By Christina Lavers

What would the world look like if instead of living our lives according to how we are told we ‘should’ be, we were all free to follow the deep callings of our hearts? Diehard capitalists would recoil at the thought and insist that civilization would come to a halt. But would everyone really stop working and choose to spend their days lounging around doing nothing? I don’t think so. We humans are curious, industrious creatures who are naturally driven by a passion to explore, learn and create.

We currently live in a mad world that is based on fear, greed and scarcity. It is considered completely normal for people to spend the majority of their waking lives toiling in jobs they hate. Economic inequality has reached a point of staggering absurdity where many people slaving away in full-time jobs can barely even meet the basic survival needs of their families, while others lounge around on $200 million yachts and have ridiculously decadent luxury homes around the world.

Leave a Better Generation for a Better World

By Purnima Ramakrishnan

“It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings.” ~ Ann Landers

We talk of climate change, pollution, gender equality, and all those things, so that our children have a better world with peace, joy and hope. But in the midst of all this good talk about a good world, we are forgetting that we need to leave better children, better people, a better generation for this good world which is in the making. Well, we need to leave behind a generation which is of the heart, soulful and in touch with the deepest levels of consciousness, to make this world a better place for future generations to come. America – The Great Illusion

By Tim Bryant

“Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” ~ Albert Einstein

Life is the greatest gift in the known universe. It is incredibly precious, vastly diverse in its scope, and without judgement or prejudice – it just happens. One does not have to possess any specific talent, live any particular lifestyle, or be any one particular person in order to enjoy its enormity. In fact, the profound beauty in life does not come through force or will, but instead through surrender to the natural flow.

However, today’s world has become increasingly complex. Social forces mold individuals into thinking, behaving, and believing in a way that benefits the consumer driven society; essentially telling the child, “you can be whatever you want to be as long as you do what you’re told”.

Group Learning (Not Teacher-Led Discussion) Makes Children Better Decision-Makers

By Christina Lavers

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

“The world got compulsion schooling at the end of a state bayonet for the first time in human history; modern forced schooling started in Prussia in 1819 with a clear vision of what centralized schools could deliver: Obedient soldiers to the army; Obedient workers to the mines; Well subordinated civil servants to government; Well subordinated clerks to industry; And citizens who thought alike about major issues.” ~ John Taylor Gatto

Schools have never been about the needs of children. Since their inception they have been about creating a populace that caters to the desires of the ruling class. Corporate leaders and their allies in government have continually worked to shape education to fit the requirements of industry. They are not interested in developing independent, self-directed individuals with the capacity to think critically and originally; they benefit from creating a malleable, suggestible, obedient and competitive population that accepts being instructed, monitored, assessed and controlled from the top down.

Self Discovery – The Key to Real Education

By Will Stanton

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

What if kids knew themselves – I mean really knew themselves?

Ask the average school leaver who they are at the core of their being and they’ll likely say they haven’t the faintest clue. Heck, ask me eight years ago when I was in my final year of high school and I’d have shrugged my shoulders too. I, like many others I’ve spoken to, didn’t find myself until after I’d run the school gauntlet.

Why is it that so many kids go through over a decade of ‘education’, yet come out the other end without a sense of who they truly are? Surely, the education system hasn’t done its job. Or, perhaps, the education system was never geared at helping children learn who they are. If that is the case, as I daresay it is, what a tragedy…

But it doesn’t have to be this way.
