Is Traditional Media Dying? The Numbers Indicate Just That

By Madison Ruppert

So-called mainstream media is quickly falling out of the mainstream. I am attempting to push the title of mainstream media out of my lexicon completely, replaced by “traditional media,” “legacy media,” “dinosaur media,” or “establishment media.”

This is because in the near future, calling it mainstream media will be about as accurate as calling Wake Up World Nazi media (that is to say, ludicrously inaccurate).

In March, the well known news organization and cable broadcaster CNN dropped a shocking 50% in total viewers and a whopping 60% in the age 25-54 demographic (A25-54) over the total day according to reports from TVNewser.

On the other hand, during primetime they fell 21% in total viewers and 26% in A25-54 viewers compared to March of last year.

CNN was not alone in losing a huge amount of their viewers, as the infamous Fox News was hit hard in March and overall in the first quarter (Q1) of 2012.

For the month, Fox lost a whopping 17%, which further shows that the biased, misleading dinosaur media is on the way out, and fast.

This is hardly surprising to someone like me in the alternative media, as it reflects exactly what we have been seeing: a crumbling paradigm of media that serves corporate interests and is little more than a dog sitting on the lap of government.

Most notably, CNN completely ignored the freedom-crushing National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 here in the United States.

Sections 1021 and 1022 of this legislation, now known as the indefinite detention provisions, completely eradicate our right to due process by authorizing the indefinite military detention of anyone the government says might be a terrorist.

It seems quite clear to me that the American people – and people around the globe for that matter – are beginning to wake up to the fact that we have been, and are currently being, deceived by the media on a daily basis.

That is likely why people are rapidly fleeing the insanely misleading establishment media which continues to tell them that they should be concerned with the lives of celebrities, the non-existent Iranian nuclear weapons, while completely ignoring the poison in our food and water, the increasingly tyrannical governments of the world, and the completely fabricated so-called “War on Terror.”

The people of the world are likely increasingly turning to the internet and social media to get the real news, as it is highly doubtful that suddenly 50% of CNN’s total viewers stopped consuming news altogether.

This is very encouraging to me and it signals a bright future for humanity as people are increasingly resilient to the misleading coverage and false narratives given to us by the establishment media.

If this trend continues, soon enough the entire concept behind traditional media will have to give way to the quickly rising independent and alternative media, and of course this is an incredibly positive development.

While many things in the world seem to just be getting worse, it is great to see that there is a growing tide of awakened people around the world who are not only aware of what is going on, but are also turning off the indoctrination platforms known as televisions and instead getting the real news from likeminded people who care about our future as human beings.

Mainstream media is losing viewers for three reasons:

    1. There is no news on the news.

    2. The number of commercials would drive anyone away.

    3. The conservatives lie like crazy and moderators never challenge statements. And the Dems are incapable of explaining anything.

If I want to really know what’s happening in the world, I have an unlimited of web sites to go to that actually have genuine information.

From which web sites do you get your news? I am always updating.

      • Madison

Here’s a pretty long list: there are also RSS feeds up there which are updated in real time.

If you add all of those links to your bookmarks, you should have a lot of material to go through. That isn’t even a fraction of all of the great sites out there.

Decentralization of the media isn’t an entirely good thing. One negative that will be amplified will be the POLARIZATION of viewpoints. With no common ground or commonly-accepted neutral voices (the hallmark of “old media” journalism), we can expect to be treated to ever-louder fringe voices on all sides, and much more of society tearing itself apart than forging ahead together.

    • Richard Wicks

I don’t think “polarization” is something people fall into, it’s what they are forced into when the Democrats are advertised as being the opposite of the Republicans, when they aren’t. They are the same thing.

What has Obama over-turned from the Bush administration? Guantanamo is still open, the wars continued, and Iraq ended on the same time table Bush or McCain would have ended it. TARP became QE1 and QE2 and lately QE3. The NDAA has been signed which does away with the 5th amendment. Warrantless wiretapping continued.

How do the Republicans differ from the Democrats in what they do? Gay marriage I guess, if you care about that, and no thinking person does when the country is burning to the ground in this corruption.

There are no neutral voices. If you believe that then you really have a lot to learn about people / human nature, as well as the concept of absolute truth versus subjective truth.

Decentralization will not lead to polarization but instead it will allow all the shades of grey.

Being obsessed with the news is ridiculous anyway. This whole ‘it’s good to be informed about the world’ is foolish. Why is it so important?

If something bad happens on the other side of the world that I can’t do anything about then I don’t want to know. Most people get off on watching the misery, even if not consciously.

If something bad happens and I have the time, skills and resources to help then I will help. Otherwise I don’t want to know. I am not a god, or the messiah or an egotistical modern day jerk who thinks they can rescue the world, neither am I someone who gets off on ‘trauma porn’ aka ‘the news’.

People need to get a real life. Go out in to your local communities or travel and get the news that way, i.e. from first hand experience. But if you do that remember that even you are biased, as am I. We all are.

People are asleep. Drop the traditional media and make your own media. Traditional media desensitizes people to horrific events and happenings, and makes them less empathetic.

Connect with those around you. What are those people’s news? 🙂

Mainstream media is losing ground…? I hope so as the lies seem to continue…I always read alternative media for the truth…If the governments and Busineses CEASE to be corporations according to OPPT then when can we see the abolishing of the income tax act as none of this money goes to the people…its to the international bankers for their compound interest on principle loans that they create “out of thin air” nothing???? and then collect not only the bogus principle but the compound interest. We the people that have been paying income tax all of our lives should be reimbursed every penny at the “elites” expense when their assets are confiscated…That would appease the people somewhat, as they deserve something for their life of “slavery”.
