Aging can have a lot of issues attached to it: The body is no longer at the top of its game and gravity is slowly but surely drawing the body down to its final resting place. We try not to complain, but Bette Davis probably said it best: Old age is no place for sissies.

As we age, there is also bound to be loss as friends and family age and inevitably cross over. What used to be a huge gathering during holidays and special occasions begins to dwindle, and many will suddenly become part of the nearly 50% of elderly people who feel isolated and alone. Then, when coupled with the physical ailments of aging, which are made worse by feelings of loneliness, emotional issues can turn into a disaster and depression can easily set in.

But now, in an inspiring innovation, elderly Seattle residents are finding a new lease on life with a project that integrates preschool and aged care facilities, bringing children and elderly residents together for variety of activities like music, dancing, art, storytelling and socializing.

The Pink Elephant – Help Halt the Hunting Madness

As the world turns and social media churns out the dirge of human activity all over the world, it becomes increasingly clear that most of the devastating situations on the planet share one underlying cause: Our refusal to love one another. Perhaps we outsmarted ourselves with the industrial revolution and new technology, which landed us at the top of our own “endangered species” list. As a result, it could be argued that the only way forward is to turn around and go the other way.

Call it what you will, but without millions of people being driven to vocalize their refusal to look the other way and not speak out loudly and clearly to defend the rights of our non-human companions — who share their journey with us — we would all be doomed. Fortunately, activists get the ball rolling and supporters chime in to declare a permanent moratorium that could simply be called: Stop the madness.

Pink Is The New Green

Some brilliant soul decided to take matters into their own hands and seeded an idea that is trending on social media right now: Dye the tusks of elephants pink. In the dream, the dye does not harm the pachyderm, cannot be washed off, and poachers move on because they can only sell the ivory if it is pure.

Rooftop Gardening – The World Is Finally Growing Up!

By Carmen Allgood

In the last five years a super-phenomenon has been rising from the mists as urban sprawl decays around the globe. In the midst of a sea of concrete and tar, a mirage of living, breathing architecture is forming before our very eyes, taking shape and emerging as an Oasis.

No longer just a place to escape from the maddening crowds and stress of inner city life, the hit song “Up On The Roof” takes on a fresh new meaning as we — the citizens of our collective home — strive to tidy up the planet and green up our world. Our survival as a species just might depend on this action.

Music Is Love

Where Have All the Flowers Gone?

In 1967 we saw “The Summer of Love” gathering speed, setting the stage in San Francisco for a radical change that no one could have predicted. Well, maybe Nostradamus and Edgar Cayce saw it coming.

By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong. And right now the Baby Boomers are a bit shell-shocked that “The Woodstock Music and Art Fair: An Aquarian Exposition,” was a big, gigantic surprise 46 years ago.

When Tiny is Huge: How a Family Produces 6,000 Pounds of Food in Their Back Yard

Just 30 minutes north of Los Angeles in the burbs of Pasadena, California, is a burgeoning tiny farm tucked snugly between three major freeways. For the last decade, the Dervaes family has proven the impossible dream can come true and happily shares the trials and tribulations of their Urban Homestead with the world. Using Laura Ingalls Wilders’ autobiographical Little House children’s stories as a sweet-dream lifestyle, their chosen model for sustainable self-sufficiency is now dubbed: Little Homestead in the City.

The family of four raises more than 350 varieties of fruit, veggies, herbs, and berries on 1/10 of an acre, which translates to a 66′ x 66′ garden space. The tiny farm is also abuzz with bees making honey, while chickens and ducks lay eggs and lend their considerable skills to insect control. Other animals share the farm but are safe since the family has a vegetarian palette.

Starved For Love? Then Give It All Away!

From our first breath until our last, most of us will be on the hunt for a mind-altering, insanely intense love experience that will save us from the doldrums of life on earth. Typically we are seeking for consummation with the understanding that we might have to search for a while until we find “the one” to make our life complete. For what is our purpose in life without love?

Most of our search will be spent trying to find a permanent fix through material means, with sex at the top of the list as the way to solidify our “special relationship.” But our first clue that sex is not the cement of any relationship should be obvious with the current divorce rate parked at nearly 40 percent.

The Remedy: Take Love Seriously

By Carmen Allgood

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

As individuals we may not yet be aware of our calling or purpose, or even recognize that we have something to accomplish while we are here. But we can rest assured that all of us share the same purpose. Our function is to bring peace to the world. To accomplish this we need to release ourselves from conflict and unify our thought system.

Some might think: “Easier said than done,” but nothing is more difficult than attempting to maintain two diametrically opposed thought systems while striving for peace and happiness.

How To De-stress In The Material World (For Free!)

13th June 2015

By Carmen Allgood

We can spend a small fortune trying to maintain our health and optimize our energy for the duration of our visit here. In reality, the most beneficial measures we can take to release the stress and toxicity we accumulate are free and available to everyone.

In order to heal – for this is what our journey is always about – we will need to stay focused on the mental realm of our experience, which also governs our emotional body. All healing is for the mind and is attained through peace, which makes the body incidental in the scheme of things.

Marijuana On A Legal Roll Worldwide – But Still Singing The Reefer Blues

2nd June 2015

Despite all the news about decriminalizing cannabis around the world, a segment of society still has a Reefer Madness mentality etched into its psyche. And even though marijuana is the most popular “illegal drug” used worldwide, there are those who firmly believe that smoking pot is a gateway to hard drugs such as crack, cocaine, meth, and heroin. (You can watch the Reefer Madness movie trailer here.)

To this day, millions of people have been arrested and punished over the use of this plant – sometimes receiving life sentences in prison. In the U.S. nearly 700,000 citizens are arrested and charged for simple possession of marijuana each year. And yet, not too long ago Americans could actually pay their taxes with hemp, and faced imprisonment for not growing cannabis. In fact, “pot” has been part of the world’s landscape for nearly 12,000 years and illegal for less than 100 years.

Spiritual Stepping Stones For Profound And Lasting Change

By Carmen Allgood

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

It is unfortunate that a lot of our time here will be spent trying to heal past pain. We come into this world kicking, screaming and crying, and many of us will depart in a similar fashion. Eventually we will embark on a path that we hope will lead us to enlightenment and save us from our lack of love of self.

The Poison and Antidote

For happiness to flood our mind there are steps that must be taken in order to be the recipient of this miracle. Happiness is a state of mind and every thought we choose results in either peace or conflict. Our choices will either make us a prisoner of our own thought system or set us free from suffering and release us to endless joy.

The ‘Missing Link’ – All Roads Lead To Love

7th April 2015

By Carmen Allgood

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

The search for the “missing link” is an age-old quest typically associated with the world of scientific exploration and discovery. Scientists have the daunting task of tracing the forms and matter we have come to know back through time and space and are hopeful about arriving at “The Beginning”.

Everything we hope to understand about the origin of life is completely dependent on the starting point. Reason tells us that the center is found in the sum of all of its parts and reflected perfectly in everything that is and ever will be.

Nature Speaks Only Truth

In spite of all the headway scientists have made in reconstructing the essence of the cosmic mass, at the end of the day they still admit that we simply do not know. Science does not know who and what we are, where we came from, where we are going or what our purpose is. It does not recognize the Cause of All.

The Gravitational Pull Of Love

Natural Selection – The Heart is a Happy Hunter

The most widely sought after experience in the world is happiness. Some call it love, joy, source, contentment, completion, God, the cure, peace, healing, or nirvana.

Because there will never be a definition expansive enough to describe the power that holds the universe together, or fully explain what set the cosmic mass in motion, the words we choose to express the only thing we really want are irrelevant. Words are symbols of symbols and are indications of our heartfelt desires.

Let’s take a look at the trigger points and what it takes to remember what is already at our core. Happiness must be inherent in who and what we are or the goal would be forever unattainable and always out of reach. Simply put, this means we have blocks that need to be removed to get to the foundation and reality of our essence.
