Shit Happens, Easily – Or Does It?

It may come as a surprise: your intestines play a vital role in your good health. If something’s amiss there, you’ll know it. Sometimes malfunction expresses as mere inconvenience, other times it points to severe imbalance or illness. Our gut is central to our wellbeing and may well be the most underrated and underappreciated organ of our body.

Let’s change that by understanding its function and service to us. Every day, your gut serves you. No matter what you offer it. Every day it turns muffins, coffee, pasta, vegetables, cake, bread, fast food and everything else into molecules we then use to generate energy and to build our own structure.

Here’s How the U.S. Government Subsidizes Your Junk Food Habit

Here’s How the U.S. Government Subsidizes Your Junk Food Habit

As an American growing up in the 1970s, I fondly remember my guilt-free days of childhood enjoying Twinkie’s, Coca Puffs, donuts and other tasty (but health-destroying) junk food. All in all, we didn’t eat an enormous amount of it, but still much more than my daughter will ever consume (as in zero).

Today, it seems we know better than to indulge in these fake edibles, laden with artificial and cancer causing ingredients that are nutritionally void. Or do we?

Obesity is on the rise, so are chronic and deadly health problems like diabetes, heart disease and cancer — and each one is closely linked with the rise in processed food consumption. Poverty plays a large role in the foods available to eat as well; there’re entire inner city neighborhoods where you can’t find fresh produce to save your life. To make matters worse, junk food is state subsidized — heavily — making it cheaper for manufacturers and more readily available to consumers. So while the U.S. nation is in a health crisis, the federal government is not combating the problem but rather fueling it with our tax dollars, perpetuating a vicious cycle of sickness which leads to reliance on a broken medical system and a multibillion dollar pharmaceutical industry. Where does it end?

CDC Executive Resigns After Being Caught Colluding With Coca-Cola to Salvage Soda Market

CDC Executive Resigns After Being Caught Colluding With Coca-Cola to Salvage Soda Market

I’ve often written about the collusion between industry and our regulatory agencies, and how industry-funded research tends to simply support and promote the industry agenda rather than shed truthful light on the benefits or risks of any given product.

Recent media reports have now revealed devastating evidence showing a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) executive aided a Coca-Cola representative in efforts to influence World Health Organization (WHO) officials to relax recommendations on sugar limits.1

In March 2015, WHO published a new sugar guideline that specifically targeted sugary beverages, calling them out as a primary cause for childhood obesity around the world, especially in developing nations where the soda industry is now aggressively expanding its reach.

Pretty much the entire population knows that drinking too much soda is bad for you. But at what point, will soda begin to have a negative impact on your health? I was surprised to learn that even drinking 1 or 2 sodas a day can negatively impact your health. While some debate the benefits of diet soda over regular soft drinks, studies show that neither is worth the health risk.

Here are 21 surprising (and not-so-surprising) soda facts that might make you re-consider your soft drink intact. Continue Reading – Type 2 Diabetes Risk Increases 25% from Drinking 1 Soda a Day … and Other Surprising Soda Facts

Junk Food Eating Generations Can Pass Metabolic Disorders To Their Children

Junk Food Eating Generations Can Pass Metabolic Disorders To Their Children

The saying “you are what your parents eat,” is becoming more relevant by the day.

Less than two years ago, scientists officially linked processed foods to autoimmune disease, and the consequences may ripple to future generations. According to a recent study published in journal Science, just one junk food-eating generation can pass on the metabolic disorders it gains from an unhealthy diet to the next.

Medical researchers have before shown a link between a father’s weight and diet at the time of conception and an increased risk of diabetes in his offspring. In research conducted on mice, a team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences found that unhealthy eating behaviours were recorded in a tiny molecule that could then be transmitted through sperm to the embryo.

The Aspartame End Game… and What’s Next

The Aspartame End Game… and What’s Next

By Dr. Joseph Mercola

For the last 17 years, I’ve warned that artificial sweeteners can wreck your health. Aspartame is among the worst of the bunch, and in general, people who consume aspartame tend to be in poorer health. They also tend to develop more of a sweet tooth.

I found the evidence against artificial sweeteners to be so compelling, and the hazards so disconcerting, I wrote an entire book on the subject called Sweet Deception, published in 2006. Now, years later, the research I presented in that book has been confirmed many times over, and the tide is finally beginning to turn against this toxic food additive.

A number of common chemicals are potent endocrine disruptors, meaning, they disrupt your hormone function. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are similar in structure to your natural sex hormones, such as estrogen.

These chemicals can potentially interfere with normal physiology, even in extremely small amounts. Your endocrine glands regulate vital physiological processes such as metabolism, reproduction, growth, and development.

A hormone’s job is to help regulate your cell’s function, sending signals that instruct them to perform certain tasks, but EDCs interfere with proper hormone signaling.

A new vaccine study published in Molecular and Genetic Medicine is bringing to the forefront the disturbing connection between the dramatic expansion in the quantity of routine childhood vaccines administered and a corresponding increase in inflammation-associated disorders.

Titled, “Review of Vaccine Induced Immune Overload and the Resulting Epidemics of Type 1 Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome, Emphasis on Explaining the Recent Accelerations in the Risk of Prediabetes and other Immune Mediated Diseases,” the study argues that vaccine-induced immune overload is a driving factor in a number of rapidly accelerating childhood epidemics including autism, type 1 diabetes, asthma, food allergies, many autoimmune diseases, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFL) and metabolic disease.

Looking around, it’s no secret that Americans are putting on the pounds unlike any other time in history. Sure, we can’t discount sedentary lifestyles, processed foods and outrageous sugar consumption as contributing factors. At the same time, an elephant in the room is often overlooked — one known as genetically modified food. Researches are beginning to connect the dots, realizing that the possibility of GMOs contributing to weight gain is not as far-fetched as once thought.

GMOs, bigger appetites and the fattening of America

A long-term project in Norway investigating the health effects of genetically modified foods has come to some startling conclusions regarding the role that GMOs play in the worldwide obesity epidemic. Over a period of 90 days, test rats were fed either food containing genetically modified corn or feed which did not contain GM corn. The scientists discovered that the rats fed a GM corn diet had bigger appetites and grew fatter than those on the non-GM diet. It was also found that rats fed a diet of fish raised on GM corn had a similar result — increased weight gain.

A new natural sweetener has been discovered which may prove to be an effective deterrent against diabetes and obesity. Made from the same plant as tequila, the sugar substitute lowers blood sugar levels and provides a source of dietary fiber. Considering almost 26 million Americans struggle with type 2 diabetes, and countless others battle obesity, the sweetener could very well play a significant role in curbing disease.

Not your ordinary sweetener

Found in the agave plant, sweet-tasting agavins help encourage insulin production, which lowered blood glucose levels in animal tests. Additionally, researchers noted the sugar substitute assisted obese mice in losing weight. According to Forbes:

Sodabriety: School Program Combats Childhood Obesity and Soda Consumption

Sodabriety: School Program Combats Childhood Obesity and Soda Consumption

A wave of childhood obesity has been continually rising throughout the United States over the last decade. There is no doubt that children who consume lots of sugar-sweetened beverages like soda and fruit drinks are at a much greater risk of becoming overweight or obese which can extend into the teenage and adult years.

In certain areas of the U.S., especially parts of Ohio, the consumption of soda by children and teens is among the highest in the nation. This has prompted two schools to launch a program called “Sodabriety” to raise awareness among students about the risks of excessive soda consumption.

Sodabriety: Combatting Childhood Obesity

The campaign consisted of a 30-day program that asked for student involvement in the design and implementation of educational programs intended to raise awareness of the associated health risks of high soda consumption. Working with researchers, the students were trying to develop a convincing program which would reduce the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages in an area of the U.S. that has one of the highest rates of diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
