Amazing Diagrams Show how Human Technology has Taken Over the Planet

Air traffic routes across North America and Europe - showing the 'hubs' that connect the world, such as London's Heathrow, JFK in New York and Frankfurt

These silvery threads stretching around the dark globe create a dramatic spider’s web showing the patterns of our global sprawl.
The stunning images are the result of 13 years of devotion by Canadian anthropologist Felix Pharand who uses them to show how human technologies such as data cables, aeroplanes and roads are colonising the surface of our planet.
Using an ordinary home PC, Pharand input data from agencies such as the Geospatial Intelligence Agency and Atmospheric Administration to create accurate illustrations of how humans have ‘domesticated’ our planet – superimposing the data on images of the earth’s cities lit up at night.
Pharand claims three per cent of the planet’s land surface is under tarmac – an area the size of India.

Battery-free Surveillance Device That Can Be Implanted Under the Flesh
Jun 21st
It seemed like only yesterday (oh hang on it was) that we were talking about how scientist have created an artificial memory system that allows thoughts, memories and learned behaviour to be transferred from one brain to another. Read our article on this here. Today we see that Nano surveillance is in full swing and of course the so called “benefits” are promoted through mass media. There are no benefits here to society, only perceived benefits from a group of people who what us to believe in it. We are turning into a George Orwell novel! Our personal freedoms are slowly but surely being stripped away everyday, which has occurred over many decades. It has to happen slowly so you don’t notice it. Did you know that Britons on average are captured on CCTV around 300 times per day! It’s time to wake up and pay attention people. As a society, as a collective consciousness, we have allowed this to happen to us as a whole. If you dont like what you see…. Change the Channel, there is too much focus on doom and gloom perpetrated by propaganda machines within mass media….. Change the Channel!
The below article is by Daniel Bates from dailymail.co.uk
A new generation of battery-free surveillance devices which can be implanted under the skin and transmit over huge distances via wireless have been developed by scientists.
Researchers are working on nano machines that could be injected into the arms of patients and then report back to doctors who are monitoring them from miles away.
They would be powered by the motion of a person walking, or even the pulse of a blood vessel, so would never stop working until the person died.
The technology could also be used in CCTV cameras attached to small flying craft which use their own motion to power themselves.
Such devices could be used by hospitals to locate patients or perhaps check if they are following their treatment plan.
But they will also be of interest to the military and the criminal justice system which is constantly on the lookout for new ways to spy on criminals.
The advancements were reported in the journal Nano Letters by Zhong Lin Wang of Georgia Tech University in the U.S.
‘It is entirely possible to drive the devices by scavenging energy from sources in the environment such as gentle airflow, vibration, sonic wave, solar, chemical, and/or thermal energy,’ he wrote.
The device would be powered by the motion of a person walking, or even the pulse of a blood vessel, so would never stop working until the person died
The device would consist of a nanogenerator which makes electricity from vibration or motion, a capacitor which stores they energy and a Bluetooth-style transmitter to end the signal.
According to Science Daily it would be able to pick up wireless signals at a distance of more than 30ft.
Earlier this year, the world’s first viable nanogenerator was unveiled by Zhong and his team.
It took six years to develop and in experiments was able to power an LED and LCD display.
At the time he said: ‘This development represents a milestone toward producing portable electronics that can be powered by body movements without the use of batteries or electrical outlets.
‘Our nanogenerators are poised to change lives in the future. Their potential is only limited by one’s imagination.’

Scientists Successfully Implant Chip That Controls The Brain

Scientists Successfully Implant Chip That Controls The Brain Allowing Thoughts, Memory And Behavior To Be Transferred From One Brain To Another
Scientists working at the University of Southern California, home of the Department of Homeland Security’s National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events, have created an artificial memory system that allows thoughts, memories and learned behavior to be transferred from one brain to another.
In a scene right out of a George Orwell novel, a team of scientists working in the fields of “neural engineering” and “Biomimetic MicroElectronic Systems” have successfully created a chip that controls the brain and can be used as a storage device for long-term memories. In studies the scientists have been able to record, download and transfer memories into other hosts with the same chip implanted. The advancement in technology brings the world one step closer to a global police state and the reality of absolute mind control.
More terrifying is the potential for implementation of what was only a science fiction fantasy – the “Thought Police” – where the government reads people’s memories and thoughts and then rehabilitate them through torture before they ever even commit a crime based on a statistical computer analysis showing people with certain types of thoughts are likely to commit a certain type of crime in the future.
We already pre-emptively invade nations and torture alleged terrorist suspects with absolutely no due process of law, so the idea of pre-emptively torturing a terrorist suspect before hand to prevent them from committing an act of terrorism in the future really isn’t that far fetched of an idea.
Perhaps a less sensational example, than those I just depicted out of own of Orwell’s famous dystopian novels would be using the technology as it is depicted the modern day Matrix movies, in which computer programs are uploaded into people’s brains allowing them to instantly learn how to perform a wide variety of tasks.
That is exactly the example that Smart Planet uses in their write-up on the USC press release.

New Technology Converts Sound Waves Into Electricity
May 30th
By Richard Gray, Science Correspondent Telegraph.co.uk
For mobile phone users, a flat battery or a lost charger are among the frustrations of modern life.
Now new research promises a way to recharge phones using nothing but the power of the human voice.
Electrical engineers have developed a new technique for turning sound into electricity, allowing a mobile to be powered up while its user holds a conversation.
The technology would also be able to harness background noise and even music to charge a phone while it is not in use.
However, there could be a downside to the innovation, if it gives people a new reason to shout into their phones as they attempt to squeeze in every extra bit of power they can.
Dr Sang-Woo Kim, who has been developing the design at the institute of nanotechnology at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea, said: “A number of approaches for scavenging energy from environments have been intensively explored.
“The sound that always exists in our everyday life and environments has been overlooked as a source. This motivated us to realise power generation by turning sound energy from speech, music or noise into electrical power.
“Sound power can be used for various novel applications including cellular phones that can be charged during conversations and sound-insulating walls near highways that generate electricity from the sound of passing vehicles.
“The latter development would have the additional benefit of reducing noise levels near highways by absorbing the sound energy of vehicles.”
The technology uses tiny strands of zinc oxide sandwiched between two electrodes. A sound absorbing pad on top vibrates when sound waves hit it, causing the tiny zinc oxide wires to compress and release. This movement generates an electrical current that can then be used to charge a battery.
A prototype of the technology was able to convert sound of around 100 decibels – the equivalent of noisy traffic – to generate 50 millivolts of electricity.
“This is not enough to charge a phone properly, but Dr Kim and his colleagues hope that by altering the material the wires are made from they will be able to produce more energy at lower sounds levels.
He said: “Our current output performance can be applied to various electronic devices with low-power consumption such as self-powered sensors and body-implantable tiny devices. We believe that we can realise more efficient sound-driven nanogenerators.”
Researchers and some manufacturers have already started looking at using ‘energy scavenging’ as a way of powering portable electronic devices.
Scientists have developed devices that can use the heartbeat to power MP3 players, while Nokia has filed a patent for a device which harvests energy from movement, much like a kinetic energy powered watch.
