The Full Moon in Cancer on January 12 marked a huge shift in our emotional reality. As we venture into 2017, we are beginning to operate from a purer energetic space as we journey to the center of our individuated sense of self. The Cardinal Cross alignment involving the outer planets of Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto has reflected to us a sense of internal friction and tension, which has forced us to make changes in our lives, and to see ourselves in new and different ways, while the planetary aspect of Mercury and Uranus to the North Node helped us to bring new insights into our moment-to-moment reality.
Now, as we come (back) into alignment with the many deep layers of what it means to be human, our current evolutionary path is reshaping our sense of identity and reorienting how we see ourselves and our place in the world. With a strong theme of energetic completion, this new lunar cycle offers us the support to go deeper, and to learn the truth of what is natural and right for us as individuals, free of the limitations of the conditioned mind.
Let’s look at the evolutionary potential of yesterday’s New Moon in Aquarius, and what’s in store for the new lunar cycle it signifies.

Venus Conjunct Chiron in Pisces Square Saturn in Sagittarius
Following the recent cycles of Venus and Mars transit through Pisces, a main theme for us has been the urge to become deeply submerged in a restful, insular way of living. This cycle of Mars and Venus in Pisces has been asking us to retreat, to find sanctuary in which we can be with our deeper feelings and explore the energy that underlies that which we do in our lives: habits, patterns, impulses etc.
As this cycle completes itself, with Mars shifting into Aries, we are experiencing an urge to break out of the deep inner retreat and explore a new direction. Chiron has had a big influence on us, amplified by both Mars and Venus moving over the asteroid (from our Earthly perspective.) The energy of Chiron helps us to become aware of the deeper subconscious parts of our selves, and as a result of this alignment, this month has brought a series of painful memories and wounds to the surface of our consciousness, and at the same time, some deep inner realisations.
However, the overriding theme of this alignment has been the Square formation Saturn in Sagittarius has been making to Venus, Mars and Chiron. The Square/90 angle reflects friction and tension, and while difficult, this tension in our lives drives us on our a path of self-understanding. In particular, these cycles have been prompting a process of dis-identification — the liberation of ourselves from past identities through which we have related to and defined ourselves. Through this alignment, Saturn in Sagittarius has been pushing us to ask the big questions: Who am I? What truth do I subscribe to?
For help integrating the process of de-identification and the feelings of loss it can bring, please read the article, Recovering From Loss of Identity.
Mercury Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn Square Jupiter in Libra
The overarching theme of this new lunar cycle is completion and deconditioning and, as this cycle of Mercury and Pluto comes to a close, we are being invited to liberate ourselves by letting go of past conditioning and old thought patterns — particularly those deeply ingrained patterns which we know are holding us back. Currently, both Mercury and Pluto are Squaring Jupiter which, again, reflects an energy of tension and friction. The nature of this cycle is to promote deep feeling that still lurk with in us, especially our feelings relating to outer ‘authorities’ and the way we are conditioned to believe life should be (as opposed to how our lives actually are, or could be.)
We are currently moving through an energy pattern that promotes deep inner self reflection. Our current evolutionary path, therefore, is one of reshaping our sense of identity and reorienting how we see ourselves and our place in the world. With Pluto, Mercury and Jupiter in such strong negotations with each other, we can expect to feel an inner pressure to evaluate and resolve issues of balance, fairness and equality that play out on a social level, particularly within our closest relationships.
The Sun and Moon in Aquarius
What is interesting about this month’s New Moon formation is that there were no major connections made to other planets by either the Sun or Moon.
The energy of both the Sun and the Moon in Aquarius really typifies our evolutionary trajectory for 2017. Aquarius is all about individuality and the expression of ourselves within the social whole, and in groups that support our inner sense of self — and we are currently in a time where we are learning to understand ourselves at the core of who we really are.
Beneath the layers of experience and conditioning, each of us has an unconditioned Self. However, we are raised without an awareness or sense of this Self, rather, we are shaped and molded from the moment of birth to become something else — to become “socialised” and “civilized”; to become a product of the society, as opposed to a product of individuality. Thankfully, the energy of yesterday’s New Moon and the lunar cycle it began is supporting us with insights and understandings that are helping to get us back on track — to begin to know ourselves as who we truly are and not what has been told to us, or what identities we have adopted over time.
This is a time where cosmic energies are supporting our process of learning the truth — to know what is natural and right for us. Listen and pay close attention to your life right now. We are being invited to learn what true individuality means for us — to authentically express our purest Self and turn the practice of Self-love into a lifestyle.
The Moon’s Message: Nothing is What You Think It Is!
What would happen if you were to let go of who you think you are, who you think you should be, how you think you should live, and why? What would change in your life if you were to let go of what you think others and your relationships should be? How you think they should act, relate and be? What would change? Do you really think you are in control of all that anyway? Have you ever been?
As you read these words, you can hear them in your head without hearing them from your physical ears. So, who is listening? You can also see yourself reading them without looking at yourself with your eyes. Who is watching? Who is the observer of your thoughts and actions? Is that who you really are?
Who would you be if you didn’t hold back or stop yourself from being who you naturally are? If you stopped identifying with your thoughts? With your conditioning? With what you have been told, with what others have shown you, and with what our world already is? What would you do if you didn’t have to be anything that has ever been before? If you allowed your inner observer to observe the magic of your uniqueness expressed perfectly as it is… as you are … How would that feel?
Maybe you are here on Earth to observe everything you are, rather than everything you think you should be? Are you the change you wish to see in the world? Would you love what you saw if you saw yourself be you, rather than what you think of yourself, or what others expect you to do and be?
Your mind is a judgement tool without feeling — it cannot feel love. You feel what it is to love yourself when you let go of everything you think — when you become the loving observer. Then, you can begin to fall in love with who you really are.
Try it out! Be yourself! Love yourself!
Blessings,
Simon & Jennifer
