During sex your body produces dopamine, a substance that fights stress hormones, endorphins (aka “happiness hormones”) and oxytocin, a desire-enhancing hormone secreted by the pituitary gland.

In a study, published in the Public Library of Science journal, three neuroscience researchers conducted a test on male rats and found that the sexually active rats were less anxious than rats with no sexual activity.

Regular lovemaking boosts the body’s production of virus fighting chemicals. Recent research has revealed that regular sex can maintain antibodies at a higher level, thereby protecting us against infection.

Researchers have found that men who had five or more ejaculations weekly while in their 20s reduced their risk of getting prostate cancer later by a third. Another study, reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that frequent ejaculations, 21 or more a month, were linked to lower prostate cancer risk in older men, as well, compared with less frequent ejaculations of four to seven monthly.

Men who have sex more than twice a week, have a lesser chance of having a heart attack, when compared to men who avoid sex.

Scientists with New England Research Institute examined the effect of sex on the heart. The study concluded that men are 45 percent less likely to experience cardiovascular diseases. Because your heart rate increases when you’re having sex, fresh blood is supplied to your organs and cells. While used blood is removed, you also discard things from your body that cause you to feel tired.

6) Prevents erectile dysfunction

Fifty per cent of men older than 40 suffer from erectile dysfunctions and all young men fear the moment when they won’t be able to get it up any more. The best medicine against impotence is… sex. An erection keeps the blood flowing through your penile arteries, so the tissue stays healthy. Plus, doctors compare an erection to an athletic reflex: the more you train the more capable you are to perform.

7) Balanced hormone levels

Have trouble with your menstrual cycle? Then, make love with your partner, as this will help regulate the menstrual cycle and also decrease cramps as sex helps maintain a balanced hormonal level. Sex also reduces stress, which is one of the reasons women miss their periods. In men, testosterone is what makes you more passionate in the sack. Not only will it make you feel way better in bed, but it is also known to improve your muscles and bones, keeps your heart healthy and a check on your cholesterol.
