Turmeric has been used in India for over 5,000 years, which is likely why still today both rural and urban populations have some of the lowest prevalence rates of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in the world. A recent study on patients with AD found that less than a gram of turmeric daily, taken for three months, resulted in ‘remarkable improvements.’

Alzheimer’s Disease: A Disturbingly Common Modern Rite of Passage

A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), sadly, has become a rite of passage in so-called developed countries. AD is considered the most common form of dementia, which is defined as a serious loss of cognitive function in previously unimpaired persons, beyond what is expected from normal aging.

Learning to Live (Die) with Your Disease

Learning to Live (Die) with Your Disease

Have you heard the latest ‘medical wisdom’? It’s become a mantra for chronic diseases, from arthritis, to diabetes, to depression to dementia. “Learn to live with your disease.” But it’s a lie. What is really being said is “Accept the fact that you are going to die with your disease.” Learn to die with your disease.

There are no cures for chronic disease. Modern medicine has abandoned cures. There are lots of reasons why cures are problematic, but it’s not what you think. It’s easy to imagine that drug manufacturers want to sell us drugs, not cures, because drugs that cure don’t sell much – they work themselves out of business cure. The best selling drugs are those that don’t cure. But it’s not so simple…

The truth can only be found in opposites. What’s the opposite of ‘learn to live (die) with your disease’? Cure your disease. But modern medicine has a few simple problems. Most medicines don’t cure any disease. Most diseases simply cannot be cured by medicines. Not only that, ‘cured’ is simply not defined for most illnesses – especially those that are easily and often cured by health, like the common cold, measles, and influenza.

Why The Law Forbids The Medicinal Use of Natural Substances

Why The Law Forbids The Medicinal Use of Natural Substances

According to the FDA’s legal definition, a drug is anything that “diagnoses, cures, mitigates, treats, or prevents a disease.” The problem with this definition is that there are numerous substances, as readily available and benign as found on our spice racks, which have been proven by countless millennia of human experience to mitigate, prevent and in some cases cure disease, and which cannot be called drugs according to the FDA.

How can this be? Well, the FDA has assumed for itself Godlike power, requiring that its official approval be obtained before any substance can legally be used in the prevention and treatment of disease. The FDA’s legal-regulatory control therefore is totalitarian and Napoleonic in construct; what it does not explicitly permit as a medicine is implicitly forbidden.

Depression? Anxiety? Here are 3 Important Nutrients That Will Improve Your Mental Health

Depression? Anxiety? Here are 3 Important Nutrients That Will Improve Your Mental Health

When I fell into a deep depression in 2010, I felt like I would never be able to escape it. Doctors made it seem that antidepressants and anxiety medications were my only options. That was it. I was left in the dark. I thought I had no other options and nowhere to turn, so I resorted to pharmaceuticals — which ultimately did not help.

Since then, I’ve travelled down a road of intense research and self-experimentation. I found solutions that weren’t conventional and mainstream, and I witnessed significant improvements in my mental health. I’ve learned many things along the way, and most importantly, I’ve learned that you don’t need drugs, the medical system or a doctor to overcome depression, anxiety and mental disturbance. What you need is to tap into the magnificent healing potential of your body — and, not surprisingly, nutrition plays a huge role in that healing process.

The Witch Hunt for “Alternative” Medicine Practitioners

The Witch Hunt for “Alternative” Medicine Practitioners

Old wives tales and recipes for remedies from your grandmother is woven into the fabric of most lives. Many of us grew up with parents who attempted a home cure before buying medicine or (heaven forbid) making an appointment with the doctor.

A couple of generations ago, the average population didn’t seek out a doctor unless it was clear that it was a serious illness and had exhausted all efforts at handling the problem at home. When doctors weren’t available, or affordable, families sought relief in what is now referred to as holistic medicine or “alternative” medicine.

“Alternative” Medicine is Not Wicked

Before we begin, let’s look at the actual terms being used, shall we? Specifically, the terms “alternative” medicine and “traditional” medicine. Hmmm… the definition of “traditional” is “something that is long-established and time-honored.” Since herbs, foods, roots, and other natural remedies have been used as medicines for millennia, I would contend that natural medicine should actually be considered “traditional” and drug-intensive medicine (which has only been used for a century or two) the “alternative”.

Instead of Pharmaceutical Drugs, These Physicians are Prescribing Time in Nature and Fruit, Vegetables For Patients

In an age where pharmaceutical drug use is off the charts, a thoughtful group of physicians are using a novel approach and advising their patients to “take a hike” — literally. Park prescriptions have been around since 2008, but the idea is now spreading more widely throughout the U.S. — and around the world — as obesity and mental health disorders have continued to climb. In a similar vein, doctors are also writing prescriptions for fruits, vegetables and other wholesome food, which patients can “fill” at their local market. The result of these unconventional interventions is nothing short of inspiring.

The Healing Power of Nature

A whole new spin on writing prescriptions for patients has people moving — through green spaces, parks and forests, in lieu of popping pharmaceutical meds for what ails them. And it works.

Acupuncture Beats Injected Morphine for Pain: Groundbreaking Study

Acupuncture Beats Injected Morphine for Pain: Groundbreaking Study

An amazing new study has found that acupuncture, the ancient practice of using needles to stimulate self-healing in the body, is more effective than intravenous morphine for acute pain relief.

A truly groundbreaking study published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, titled “Acupuncture vs intravenous morphine in the management of acute pain in the ED”, reveals that acupuncture — one of the oldest techniques to treat pain — is more effective, faster in relieving pain, and with less adverse effects, than intravenous morphine.

The study[1] was conducted over the course of a 1-year period at the Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital in Tunisia, a tertiary care facility with over 100,000 Emergency Department (ED) visits per year.

A Comprehensive Guide to the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

A Comprehensive Guide to the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

What is the Emotional Freedom Technique?

Although it is still often overlooked, emotional health is absolutely essential to your physical health and healing — no matter how devoted you are to the proper diet and lifestyle, you will not achieve your body’s ideal healing and preventative powers if emotional barriers stand in your way. That’s why I routinely used the Emotional Freedom Technique (or EFT) in my practice, and most highly recommend to optimize your emotional health. EFT is very easy to learn, and will help you remove negative emotions that cause ill health, reduce food cravings, reduce or eliminate pain, and implement positive goals.

EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasive needles. Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem — whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. — and voice positive affirmations.

Eating Raw Garlic Twice a Week Reduces Cancer Risk by 44 Percent

Eating Raw Garlic Twice a Week Reduces Cancer Risk by 44 Percent

Eating raw garlic twice a week reduces your cancer risk by 44%, without any side effects whatsoever. That’s a statistic the cancer industry cannot claim

The reason so many people die after conventional cancer treatment is that, beside indiscriminately damaging healthy cells, chemotherapy also triggers them to secrete a protein that actually sustains tumour growth and encourages resistance to further treatment. It is only because of forces that have carefully conspired to thwart meaningful advances in ‘alternative’ cancer research and treatment over the past century that chemotherapy is even still practiced. (What reality do we in live when cut, poison and burn are considered the only acceptable ways to treat cancer?)

The Power of Garlic

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a member of the onion family Alliaceae. Garlic has been used throughout history for both its culinary and medicinal properties. Garlic’s distinctive characteristics arise from sulfur, which constitutes almost 1% of its dry weight. Although garlic does not typically serve as a major source of essential nutrients, it may contribute to several dietary factors with potential health benefits, including the presence of oligosaccharides, arginine-rich proteins and, depending on soil and growing conditions, selenium and flavonoids.

6 Plants Other Than Cannabis That are High in Healing Cannabinoids

6 Plants Other Than Cannabis That are High in Healing Cannabinoids

12th August 2016

By Anna Hunt

Cannabis is not the only plant that contains medically beneficial cannabinoids, although it has driven the research to understand the powerful therapeutic properties of these plant compounds. In actuality, there are several plants that are also rich in cannabinoids and benefit the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for helping the body maintain internal balance, or homeostasis, which is needed for attaining optimum health.

To expand our understanding of cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, scientists and botanists are exploring the prevalence of cannabinoids in many plants used in natural remedies, other than just cannabis. Below are six plants found to either contain healing cannabinoids or affect the endocannabinoid system, and some of their known therapeutic benefits.

1. Coneflower – Echinacea

This plant is well-known for its ability to help the body fight off the common cold. It is also used to relieve anxiety, fatigue, migraines, and arthritis. Echinacea is a bit different than cannabis because it uses cannabimimetics instead of cannabinoids to engage the endocannabinoid system, particularly the CB2 receptor. Similar to THC in cannabis, the N-alkyl amides (NAAs) in echinacea are responsible for regulating the immune system, pain and inflammation.

Kratom: The Top-Notch Holistic Substance You’ve Likely Never Heard Of

Another ancient holistic remedy has continued to circulate itself through Western underground recreational drug culture, pharmacology, and most importantly, in the realm of holistic medicines, drug rehabilitation and alternative medicines. While the legal status of kratom varies around the world, it is currently considered legal on the majority of the Earth, and is surprisingly still legal and growing in popularity in places like the United States. It is often thought to be an herb, but is actually a coffee tree that was originally native to Malaysia and Thailand. The leaf is picked from the tree and brewed into a tea, or mixed into other drinkable/consumable items; picked fresh from the tree, it is often gummed in the lip like tobacco chaw. While there is some history of it being smoked, and it does not have any negative side effects from the smoking, the pharmacological structure of the plant is not properly dispensed when burned. The Metabolic Model of Cancer: How Nutrition and Diet Influences Cancer

The Metabolic Model of Cancer: How Nutrition and Diet Influences Cancer

By Dr. Joseph Mercola

Guest writer for Wake Up World

Is it possible that chromosomal damage is simply a marker for cancer and not the actual cause of the disease? Compelling evidence suggests this is the case, and in the featured lecture, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gary Fettke reviews some of this evidence.

Having battled cancer himself, Fettke came to realize the influence of nutrition on cancer, and the importance of eating a diet high in healthy fats and low in net carbohydrates (total carbs minus fiber, i.e. non-fiber carbs). Fettke is not the only one promoting the metabolic model of cancer.

Earlier this year I interviewed Travis Christofferson, author of a phenomenal book on this topic, called “Tripping Over the Truth: The Return of the Metabolic Theory of Cancer Illuminates a New and Hopeful Path to a Cure“.
