The Role Great Sex Plays in Female Creativity

By Carolanne Wright

“To understand the vagina properly is to realize that it is not only coextensive with the female brain, but is also, essentially, part of the female soul.” ~ Naomi Wolf

As a culture, we typically don’t view female anatomy as something intricately linked with creativity, power, drive, focus, courage or motivation. Either it’s something to be shamed through religious traditions or exploited with pornography, advertising and the media at large. Even so, the 1960’s saw a movement towards accepting and admiring the female form as “goddess.” We still see small pockets of it today. And the idea of the “muse” has a long history of inspiring some of the greatest art known to man.

We Don’t Need a New President – We Need a New System and a New Consciousness

By Makia Freeman

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

What the United States needs most right now is a new consciousness, and a new system which springs from that elevated consciousness – not a new president.

Here we are again in the midst of another long election cycle in the US, and what has changed? Yes, there are more “outsiders” this time, to the extent that you can call Sanders (a career politician) and Trump (a billionaire intent on always getting the best deal, in true capitalistic style, no matter what) “outsiders”. You see it every election cycle; a new candidate emerges, promising hope, change and sometimes even a revolution. But how often does it actually lead to significant, lasting and beneficial change? Can any candidate really deliver as much freedom, peace and abundance to the average person as much as an improved new system?

Scientific Consensus Statement Reveals Monsanto’s Roundup Herbicide a Major Health Threat

By Sayer Ji

A newly published scientific consensus statement on Roundup herbicide reveals exposure to this ubiquitous toxicant is increasing and valid research proving it safe is still nowhere to be found.

A powerful new review on the toxicity of glyphosate signals a growing consensus among non-industry-sponsored scientists that the relatively unmonitored and unregulated exposure to this ubiquitous toxicant can no longer be promoted as a justifiable risk. The review is open access and can be downloaded as a PDF and/or read in its entirety here.

The newly released consensus statement published in the journal Environmental Health and titled, “Concerns over use of glyphosate-based herbicides and risks associated with exposures: a consensus statement,” identified the broad spectrum herbicide glyphosate (common trade name “Roundup”) as major threat to human and environmental health.

Government Quietly Admits to Weather Modification Program

By Ryan Cristian

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

As the United States moves farther away from the democracy it once pretended to be, the level of propaganda and indoctrination that the average American must wade through in order to get the smallest amount of Truth is staggering. We have reached a point in which Americans are so overwhelmed with the current battle taking place between the Alternative News community and mainstream media, and its barrage of contradicting “Facts,” that most have simply chosen to completely remove themselves from any critical thinking. Even when the government itself reveals an age-old lie to be true, most are so indoctrinated with the idea of the “conspiracy” that they convince themselves that the revelation is just another trick of those deceptive “conspiracy theorists.”

This has been seen many times in recent years. A perfect example of this is weather modification.

Ignorance Is Not Bliss – The Truth About the Diamond Industry

By Irwin Ozborne

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

“For every hand in marriage, another hand is taken away. For every finger to receive a ring, another finger must pull a trigger.”

We all know the story. It is the classic love story. The man gets down on one knee, grabs hold of the girl’s hand and she covers her mouth as she is overtaken by emotions. The man pulls out a tiny box and opens it up to show off the sparkling diamond engagement ring before asking the question, “Will You Marry Me?” They are officially engaged once he pops a diamond ring on her finger.

However, there is another side to this story that never gets covered in the media. It is the dark side of the diamond. And if the public knew about the horrors and atrocities that take place to produce this mineral, perhaps we would re-think the way we celebrate “love”.

Synthetic Forests: The Enormous Risks of Genetically Engineered Trees

By Dr Joseph Mercola

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

If the biotech industry has its way, 184 million acres of native forests around the world will be bulldozed down and replaced with plantations of genetically engineered (GE) trees.

On these proposed GE tree plantations, there are essentially no other plants, insects, birds, or wildlife — just rows upon rows of cloned Frankentrees growing at accelerated rates on a crust of dead, lifeless soil above dwindling groundwater reserves.

Moreover, GE trees are being genetically engineered with unnatural characteristics, such as the ability to kill insects, tolerate colder temperatures, resist toxic chemicals, and grow faster — but these “advantages” come at an unacceptable price.

Leaving a Legacy of Destruction: Fracking Industry Threatens U.S. National Parks

By Carolanne Wright

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

As if it wasn’t bad enough to have fracking operations in our backyards — destroying local ecosystems, human health and property values — the oil and gas industry has expanded into public lands, with many national parks now under threat. Not only does fracking for petroleum and natural gas promote ecological and climatic changes, but it also destroys the water we drink and the air we breathe. Not to mention the practice has been linked to an increase of earthquakes. Moreover, waste generated by the industry is exceptionally toxic and difficult to dispose of safely — to the point where municipalities are resorting to spraying it on roadways, and other acts of insanity. Keep in mind fracking fluid contains a slew of hazardous chemicals and is oftentimes radioactive.

Seed Bombs: A Creative (and Fun) Mission to Save the Bees and Butterflies

By Carolanne Wright

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

By now most are aware of the dire situation of the honeybee: dwindling numbers, collapsed colonies and dying hives — which endangers not only honey production, but also the food supply. We face a stark reality if bee numbers continue to decline, some foods will become downright impossible to grow — such as almonds, certain berries and apples. Not to mention bees contribute approximately $15 billion to U.S. crop production. If they all but disappear, the economy will be hard hit.

And it’s not just honeybees at risk. Wild pollinators — thousands of breeds of bees, butterflies, moths and birds — are in trouble as well. Some speculate GMOs are the cause of the shrinking numbers, others claim pesticides — especially those of the neonicotinoid and glyphosate class — are at the root of the problem. Many believe it’s a combination of both. While environmental advocacy groups and corporate chemical companies battle it out, grassroots efforts have taken the matter in hand and have cultivated an innovative solution to the issue. One such organization is the Great Seed Bomb.

Genius or Madness? Tendency Toward Mental Illness May Share Genetic Roots with Creativity

By Christina Lavers

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

There has long been an association between creative genius and madness. In many respects this apparent relationship is not surprising since both involve a deviation from what is described as a ‘normal’ approach. The ability to think outside the box involves the adoption of perspectives that might not appear obvious to the average person.

Van Gogh, Sylvia Plath, Beethoven, Kurt Cobain and Robin Williams are just a few of the many creative geniuses who are believed to have suffered from some form of mental illness. When we examine the intense beauty and power of their creations, and the epic lives many of these individuals led, it can be almost instinctive to want to romanticize aspects of mental illness as it is often seen as the key to their genius. However, anyone who has experienced mental illness, either first-hand or through a loved one, knows that there is nothing romantic about the associated suffering.
