Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Pisces: Finding Your Balance in the Flow of Extremes

There have been some intense energy patterns this month! With Jupiter, Venus and Mercury in a full phase opposition to Chiron in Pisces, a major theme of this lunar phase was the feeling of being blocked by our environment and the people around us, and by extension, deeply questioning those relationships and entanglements. And with the addition of Mercury Retrograde it has been a time of reflection, but also a bumpy ride for those of us who struggled to keep our sense of humour and find the silver lining.

However these challenges brought an energetic opportunity to clean up house; to shake out the emotional rug and honestly identify the areas of our lives that create love, peace and comfort, and those that create confusion, chaos, fear and doubt, and to examine the thoughts, patterns and emotional residues that continue to limit us and block our flow. Since the Solar Eclipse and New Moon in Virgo marked the beginning of this lunar cycle on September 1st, this has been a time to get it all out and give it a good dust off, and then re-organize ourselves and our lives accordingly. It’s been a confronting but necessary process, as we transition into our new paths — which require as little baggage as possible.

With today’s Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, we are experiencing a natural shift in our perception of Self and, therefore, Reality. Confronted by our internal baggage and blockages, our fundamental beliefs are being challenged on all levels. We are being pushed from our safe centre of gravity, forced to find our natural balance through the experience and integration of extremes.

The Moon, Neptune, Chiron, and the South Node in Pisces

This is an important energy pattern that will be with us for sometime. This pattern of Chiron (the wounded healer) and its formation with the Full Moon in Pisces will show you both in your personal life and on a collective level exactly how the outdated fight and protect dynamic of the human ego no longer offers us the positive evolutionary results it once did.

On the deepest level of our human karmic experience, buried deep within the collective psyche, are feelings of disempowerment and trauma, caused by war and competition, the suppression of the heart over the mind, and the emotional and instinctual suppression we accept as a normal part of socialization. Over the last few thousand years humanity has invested its energy in the ego; the part of us that sees our Self as separate to the whole, that defends and protects us from external threats — some real, many more imagined. These trauma signatures have taken us away from the path of natural instinct, and as a result, the world and our experiences of life can become so overwhelmed by a sense of tragedy and injustice that we can lose touch with our true Self — with the knowing of our true power and trust in our collective, interconnected bond.

However we have reached a point in our collective evolution where we are seeing a natural shift in this perception of Self, and Source, and this has resulted in a rising demand for change, not just in the structure of our lives but in how we as human beings respond to life itself.

With Neptune in Pisces also squaring Saturn in Sagittarius, our own outdated fundamental beliefs are being challenged. This is a key ingredient as the energy pattern of this Full Moon continues to unfold for us. We are being invited to open ourselves up, to seeing ourselves in new ways, and finding new forms of self care that help us be more supportive of our own evolution. We are healing ourselves of the hardship of living life in darkness, collectively, but also individually, and that can feel genuinely traumatic. Be present with your own struggle, and allow this trauma to be felt, acknowledged, and healed.

This is an intense period of purification, and we are almost done with the toughest part.

Venus and Jupiter in Libra

The current energy pattern of this month’s lunar cycle is serious business! Carrying on this theme is Jupiter (natural philosophy) and Venus (needs and values) in Libra (balance and acceptance). This alignment is here to compel each of us to seek and (re)establish balance in our lives, to create a life that both reflects and supports our world view and restoring wholeness within ourselves and our experience. This energy pattern will require us to remain balanced and grounded, otherwise we will find ourselves being pushed and pulled in all directions, experiencing polarisation and separation instead of balance and integration.

At its essence, the Libra archetype reflects the experience of finding balance through extremes, and the passage of Jupiter through Libra (until October 2017) will draw our focus toward experiencing and integrating extremes in relation to our philosophies and values. As we are only just entering this phase of expansion and growth, we will continue to see some interesting upgrades in our awareness — particularly our awareness around natural justice, what is fair and not.

This Full Moon also holds the energy of Uranus (de-conditioning) in Aries (instinct) opposition to Venus (values) in Libra (balance). This will bring tension around feelings on one hand of needing liberation (Uranus) and on the other hand, of wanting to be in communion with others (Venus) as a way of being heard and valued. Listening is therefore a key aspect of this transit, and this will ask us to hear others in such a way that we understand how their reality is for them.

Karmically, this period will also ask to focus on what balance and fairness actually means for us, and others, in both philosophy and practice. This will be a process of examining and integrating the conflicts between humanity’s instincts and conditionings, values and needs, which in turn will inform how we understand the reality of our current evolution, and create our futures as conscious parts of the human whole.

Of course, this change begins from within. Ask yourself: How I can break down the remaining elements of externalized authority, influence and identity that still influence my life? How can I embody more of my instincts and values, and empower and restructure my Self and my life in the process?

The Sun/Moon Opposition: The Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon in Pisces

We are halfway through this month’s lunar cycle, and the climax of this energy patterns is not leaving anyone untouched. With the amplifying force of the Sun/Moon opposition, there is so much energy available for us to feel and embody right now, and deep feelings of overwhelm, experiences of confusion, and then moment of deep clarity are emerging as rapidly as they pass. This is a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows!

As we go through this process of purging all the unconscious feelings that keep us feeling disempowered and unable to create the future we truly want for ourselves and our fellow humans, it is common to not feel a safe centre of gravity under your feet. The only way out of those feelings is through them. Our emotional and energetic boat is being rocked, and in our personal view, stillness is key to withstanding the storm — stillness of being, and stillness of mind.

The mind is a very dangerous place for us right now. The current energy patterns run far deeper than anything we can truly grasp on a conscious level, however the ongoing influence of Mercury Retrograde (until September 22nd) continues to pull us within, compelling us into mind consciousness in a reflective attempt to understand. Of course the mind, in its very linear logical way, is conditioned to keep you alive, make logical decisions — and fill in the blanks with assumptions. This means it can be very unsettling when we try to figure out through the mind what is going on in the BIG big picture, so this process of reflection can be filled with doubt, confusion and deep feelings of insecurity, even emotional paralysis.

To make the most of this energy pattern, it is better to ride the wave and surrender to what is present for your right now, and let go of what is currently out of your hands. The process of Pisces (the Moon, Chiron, Neptune) never leaves us in total clarity; clarity and insight comes over time. So stay present with your thoughts and emotional responses. Repetitive themes will come into your awareness, and you will soon know where you need to spend your time, energy and consciousness. And, as Jupiter continues to move through Libra over the next year, you will begin to see how this phase relates to the process of breaking down the externalizing of your power and really coming to embody the inner knowing you discovered in the shadows of unknowing.

Full Moon Message

Everything in the universe consists of the polarities of yin and yang; feminine and masculine. The feminine energy of acceptance, sustenance and fate is in a constant dance with the masculine energy of determination, progression and willpower. These polarities are the foundation of everything: the splitting of the atom. The dance between these energies is always what we are experiencing, and the balance and harmony and flow is always what we are seeking.

Balance does not come through softening the energies to merge them into one nor by finding a middle ground and staying there, it comes through embracing the dance by totally embodying each individual energy when called upon and doing so with confidence.

There is a time for action and effort, and a time for acceptance and stillness — a time for communication and a time for silence. The balance between these polarities is what we are learning. To respond correctly and wholeheartedly to each situation we are confronted with. The gift of the wisdom to know the difference is what we are presented with at this point, but as we are challenged with situations that call for totally opposing approaches, everything can feel incredibly overwhelming. We are learning to live in harmony with universal forces, and there is no alternative but to experience and integrate them, for we will either willingly embrace the currents or be pushed and pulled through them.

Pay careful attention to what each situation is asking of you. Is it a time that calls for receptivity, or response?

As we learn the dance of the universe, it is natural to move when we should retract, and vice versa. We are likely to bump into one another and step on each others’ toes, as we learn through trial and error how to navigate these new spiritual waters. There are no ultimate truths to apply to all situations, either, as everything is constantly changing and moving. The lesson here is not about knowing but feeling your way forward. Once we learn to ride the flow, then we can freestyle — then we will truly know what it is to be alive! For now, it’s time to get out of your head and get into the flow!
