Many of us feel like we’re simply wandering through life, doing the things that are expected of us, never truly knowing what we were born or destined to do. If you feel like this statement hits too close to home, don’t worry, you’re not alone. What’s more, it can be difficult to empower yourself and create change, in your life and the world around you, because too often we lull ourselves into a false sense of security within our comfort zone.

Yes, you might have a great job at that accounting firm, but is that something you see yourself doing your whole life? More importantly, is that what you were meant to do? These are difficult questions that need answering if you are to pivot your life for the better. Once you have the answer, you can start your journey of self-discovery, and one of the best ways to do that is to start tapping into your talents.

However, discovering your talents is just one of the steps. Here’s how you can discover your purpose and start living the life you were meant to live.

Start with the things that spark joy

There are just some things in life that never fail to bring a smile to our face. From the things you love to see, hear, and do ever since you were a child, all the way to things you love now as an adult, there are many wonderful ways to spark joy in your everyday life. You simply need to know what those are, put them on a piece of paper, and start prioritizing.

The journey of self-discovery is a deeply intimate experience, and it will require you to look deep into your heart and soul in search of those things that bring warmth and joy. However, you also have to be a bit analytical as well. Make sure to put all these things into your diary or notebook and start writing down how each makes you feel, and what it means to you. Speak from the heart and be honest with yourself.

Visualize your future self

Visualization is a powerful tool you can use throughout your journey of self-discovery, as it can help you put your future into perspective. Many a time, we’re only concerned with immediate happiness and instant gratification that something new brings without thinking about the long-term effects of our actions and choices. This can lead to disappointment and regret in the long run, and while you can always change your life later on, it’s best to make the right choices during self-discovery.

To make this process as rewarding as possible and help with visualization, you can head out into nature to find peace and some much-needed clarity. Once there, you can start meditating and grounding your mind, with an emphasis on the task at hand, which is to visualize a different future in which you have pursued your unique talents and passions.

Tap into your talents through education

Figuring out what your life is all about and what you were meant to do requires some deep introspection, but also proper education and training. After all, you might be in love with photography, but if you don’t attend some workshops in photography for beginners and explore that talent in a more professional setting, you may never transform it into a lifelong passion or a rewarding career. You need to move forward in life, and that means improving your skills and honing your talents through professional guidance.

This is true no matter what your passions are in life. Whether you want to be a photographer or a videographer, a choreographer or a yoga teacher, or anything in between, make sure to find good mentors and teachers. If you don’t, you may abandon your goals shortly after starting your journey.

Put your values into perspective

The journey of self-discovery can be a long and winding one, but not if you understand your intrinsic values. We all have values that guide our actions and shape our mindset throughout our life’s journey, and it’s important to preserve and nurture the right values throughout this process as well.

This will help you enhance your creativity and mindfulness along the way. Take some time to think about the values that move you, understand how they tie into your talents and passions, and weave them into your future.

Try new things and keep an open mind

Lastly, always be experimenting. Life is long and full of wonders, and you shouldn’t pick a single passion or vocation without exploring some other things that might spark joy in your life. You can also pursue other passions alongside your true calling, because who says that you can’t devote your life to several things at once? Be bold and keep experimenting until you find what moves you in the best possible direction.

Over to you

Self-discovery is a deeply transformative process, and the time is now to kick-start your journey. With these key steps in mind, go ahead and discover your true purpose and start living a life worth remembering.
