The Lonely Road of the Free Thinker

A Free-Thinker – someone who’s mind is not bound by any chain, free to explore the great abyss unhindered by fear, emotion, or ideology.

In reality, it is outside the box free-thinkers, who are the engines of social change and ingenuity, often leading society into new directions not yet seen before. They represent a voice of authenticity and uniqueness in a world that is all to filled with conformity and linear thinking. While the achievements are applauded by future generations, in the present they are often looked down upon, feared, laughed at, and even seen as crazy for their unique perspectives on life. It is often a lonely road for the truly unleashed free-thinker.

Definition is the opposite of free thought in that it is definite, distinct, or clearly outlined. There is no need to think about it since it is a distinctly defined concept. It is not to say definition and form is a bad thing because form does exists in some way or another, but for society to evolve, transcending definitional thinking is the essential key to growth. The problem is that society often gets fixated in the present paradigm of definition, which has a current set of rules, parameters, and accepted ways of thinking. The truth is always thought of in regard to how it applies to the here and now paradigm of accepted truth, not what truth might have looked like in the past or how it might look in the future. People are very conditioned and afraid to question the currently accepted truths. Going against group think often leads to social isolation, ridicule and even physical harm on some issues. Accepting the current truths of the current paradigm is a much safer and comfortable existence for any human being.

How to Positively Thrive in Times of Change… Including 3 Simple Strategies

How to Positively Thrive in Times of Change… Including 3 Simple Strategies

In a universe of constant change, change is the only constant. And yet because of the density and inertia of the physical 3D World society has built, it’s easy to be lulled into the status quo: that we can expect everything to be more or less like it was yesterday. This just builds complacency, laziness and fixed conditioned behaviourisms.

What if, though, you could recognise the underlying shift of energy taking place, harness this ‘River of Life’, and have it inspire and invigorate an entirely new way of being? As the old paradigm crumbles and declines, what if you could positively thrive through it and come alive? Here are 3 simple strategies for you to do that…

The Importance of Blending Surrender with Willpower on the Spiritual Path

The Importance of Blending Surrender with Willpower on the Spiritual Path

You’ll no doubt hear lots about the value and importance of surrender on the spiritual path — being able to accept the moment as it really is, without needing it to be a certain way. In other words, not needing a particular outcome.

So what about all the qualities of determination, courage and willpower? Do they fit in, and if so, how?

This exploration includes the first in series of new style Openhand Spiritual Philosophy videos…

True surrender is not simply “dropping the hot coals”

It is of course only the ego that continues to effort and struggle to get somewhere in life or to attain something. The ego being essentially, that unrealised aspect of the soul, which attaches to the physicality of life. So one of the most valuable steps we can take on the path, is that of surrender.

“Make no mistake about it – Enlightenment is a destructive process. It has nothing to do with becoming better or becoming happier. Enlightenment is the crumbling away of untruth. It is seeing through the façade of pretense. It is the complete eradication of everything we imagined to be true.” ~ Adyashanti

It has been repeatedly demonstrated by quantum physics that the world we live in is an illusion, or a dream. So, if the reality that we perceive to be ‘real’ is actually an illusion and the entire world is actually dreaming, how can they be woken up? The same way most of us wake from our sleep every morning… by the sound of the alarm clock.

September 11, 2001

It was my junior year of college; I remember being stuck in some psychology class watching a boring video, which gives me a chance to sleep off my hangover from the night before. The kid in front of me has tuned out and is listening to the radio through some headphones, and nodding in-and-out of wakefulness. Then suddenly he pops his head up and says out loud, “A plane just hit the World Trade Center.”

A Massive Wake-Up Call for Humanity

A Massive Wake-Up Call for Humanity

Currently the planet is going through an epic energetic shift in global consciousness and frequency upgrades, unlike anything we have seen before, and it is happening rapidly. People are quickly awakening and gaining access to their own light, their own power, their own information, their own truth.

With this level of change, comes great challenges (opportunities for learning and growth) and disruptions that may rock you to your core, as you release the old and make room for the new emerging energies to come into form. The old structures must fall; the limitations must be released; the castles of corruption must crumble to the ground. Essentially, we must empty out the garbage first, removing the layers of trash from our lives that are clogging the pipes and stopping the flow, before we can be filled with and hold, the high frequency light that is available to all of us, now more than ever before.

Reading Signs and Synchronicity on the Spiritual Path

As you inquire deeper into the real meaning of the moment, and of your life’s purpose, you’ll start to pick up signs and synchronicity, where the field seems to magically click in around you, as if by some pre-ordained force. What’s going on here? How might you best understand, and work with, the signs? They are powerful pointers to your journey of evolution, which we will explore here. This exploration also contains a video in the new Openhand Philosophy series.

Moving into Harmony

We live in a world that has become very disconnected from the divine flow. Humanity has created a system based on logical rules and regulations. Conditioning causes people to expect things to work a certain way, and to struggle for some desired outcome. All of this intentioning cuts across the natural flow of life. The result is, everything appears random and haphazard; there’s no apparent deeper meaning and therefore there’s a perceived need to try to control life, to get some kind of outcome.

How Does a Paradigm Shift in One Generation? 5 Lessons From the Psychedelic Renaissance

How Does a Paradigm Shift in One Generation? 5 Lessons From the Psychedelic Renaissance

We are living in tense times where the push for progress is clashing with the establishment and traditional ways of thinking. This has all got me wondering, how does a paradigm actually change? How do shifts in attitudes lead to real changes in policy and society? Looking back on many of my past radio shows, I’m noticing that by examining the emerging ‘psychedelic renaissance we can uncover some very valuable lessons about what it really takes to shift a culture’s understanding, attitudes and politics. (For more about the Psychedelic Renaissance, check out this book!)

Arguably, the strides made in psychedelic research and the push towards legal psychedelic medicine over the past 50 years (and especially during the past 15 years) can be considered some of the greatest paradigmatic shifts of our time. For example, just in my short lifetime, I have witnessed cannabis transition from an absolutely illegal substance, to a fully legal recreational commodity in states like Colorado (even though it still sits on the DEA Schedule 1 narcotic list). As a psychologist, I have even offered my services as a volunteer in the MAPS (The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) phase 2 clinical trials for MDMA psychotherapy, where I stayed overnight in the office/treatment center supervising participants who had completed the study.

Saying NO with Conviction

Saying NO with Conviction

No” is a complete sentence. ~ Anne Lamott

As I reclaim more of my inner power by unplugging from the authoritative cultural systems that hurt the soul (i.e. banking, insurance, technology, media, education, “health” care, politics, etc.), I’m realizing with greater clarity how the domestication of the human spirit has devolved the homo sapien species into a rather docile lot of compliant mutants. By normalizing the prevailing (abnormal) story of separation and not questioning the systems that hold it in place, we preserve the status quo at great expense to our own lives and also to life on Earth.

Joseph Goebbels, minister of propaganda for the German Third Reich under Adolf Hitler once said: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it… The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Starve the Beast, Feed the Light — A Formula for Direct Individual Action

It is often echoed that “the system doesn’t work for the people” and “it only works for the elite that own it”. Regardless of ideology, it’s pretty hard to deny this claim when wealth inequality and power concentration are rampant all over society with plenty of hard data to back it up. This reality is not really in question by most logical people with access to even the most basic information. However, what is often not discussed, and is much more controversial, is how to implement tangible solutions to the current social enigma the world finds itself in. This lack of effective solutions seems to be the major hurdle holding back a fast awakening public.

The problem is that many people today go about activism in the totally wrong way, spinning the wheels, but going nowhere fast. The three most common tactics include constantly complaining about other people’s actions, protesting the actions of others by occupying space/holding signs, and lobbying middlemen politicians to enact new laws to fix the problems and “protect” the people. Though these tactics might work to some small degree (obviously not working very well at the moment), they are all missing one fundamental element at the heart of real change — and that is direct individual action. By always asking and relying on some other entity to be the ultimate agent of change, like the government or private corporations, people are stripping themselves of their own power to change the system directly through their own individual actions.

The Mandela Effect: When History Just Won’t Stay Put

The phrase “Mandela Effect” has been trending upward at an exponential rate since July 2015, according to Google Trends. Part of what is fueling the rapid increase in discussion about the Mandela Effect is that some of the reporters writing articles about the increased interest in this phenomena are experiencing it, too. One reporter noticed that an oft-remembered cheesy love sequence between two characters in the James Bond movie, Moonraker, no longer exists – despite his recollection (and mine) that “Dolly has braces”!

While many are surprised by the recent surge of interest in the “Mandela Effect,” those of us who have been researching and writing about this phenomenon of reality shifts and alternate histories have long been anticipating just such a rise of interest.

What is the Mandela Effect?

It seems to me that just about everybody is searching for something — be it joy, love, material abundance or some kind of fulfillment. And so often, all that’s found, are dancing veils in a world of disillusion. Many people are close, tantalisingly close to the ultimate prize that will complete them. It’s right there, in every single moment — the potential to break through into your deepest Cosmic Self, the magnificent destiny of all toil and struggle; the answer to every question. But where do you look? And most importantly, how do you look?

The fundamental challenge every soul faces

It helps to first appreciate the fundamental challenge that every soul faces — identification, and thereby a degree of loss of vibration, within the physicality of life.

The Lily of the Field: Transformation Through Natural Intelligence

The Lily of the Field: Transformation Through Natural Intelligence

“Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.” ~ Zen

The belief that parents are creators of children is one of several false assumptions in the hypnosis of life. This delusion is emotionally sustained by the misunderstood interpretation of the parental instinct.

The parent living under natural law — Intelligence, the mysterious expression of all that exists — knows that their primary role as good stewards (caretakers) is in the protection of the child from cultural predators. The parent who does not live under the guidance of Intelligence and who responds to life’s challenges from their indoctrinated state, believe it their loving duty to train up the child in accordance with their cultural traditions passed down from past generations. There is no freedom in looking at life’s challenges when that seeing is through the lens of past knowledge.
