How This Simple Educational Model Can Change the World

25th May 2016

“In the modern age of production and consumption, in the age of money and power, the meaning of education has become distorted. The Latin root of the word education – educare – means to ‘bring out’, whereas the present implication of the word education is to ‘put in’.” ~ Satish Kumar

America — and the world at large — is in crisis. From education to the environment and how we relate to one another, most would agree, something needs to change — and quickly. As overwhelming as this state of affairs can be, Satish Kumar, a former Jain monk, long-time peace activist and ecological champion believes we can radically re-establish balance to our planet and its inhabitants with one straightforward idea. The key to such a metamorphosis? Our educational system.

Could Talking to Your Body Be the Answer to Your Health Complaints?

21st May 2016

By Carolanne Wright

Have no doubt, the mind can be a powerful healing tool. And science is beginning to acknowledge what shamans, healers, intuitives and spiritual masters have known for a millennia. Researchers like Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. have shown that our thoughts, whether conscious or not, have a profound impact on our bodies — right down to the cellular level and our very DNA. Time and again, it has been demonstrated that when we harbor ill will toward ourselves with negative self-talk and beliefs, our well-being and health will eventually suffer. Fortunately, the reverse is also true. When we hold ourselves in unconditional, genuine love — miracles happen as a matter of course.

Polyamory: Is it Really Possible to Romantically Love More Than One Person at the Same Time?

21st May 2016

By Dr. Kelly Neff

Guest writer for Wake Up World

One the greatest struggles of our modern monogamous relationships is the limitation of only being able to romantically “love” one person at the same time. It feels confusing and counter-intuitive, because we know we can “love” so many people at once, across our family, friends and others. But in monogamy, if we love more than one person romantically, we are causing harm to the relationship and violating the agreements we have made to be exclusive. Some people lie and cheat because they cannot reconcile their love for another with their love for their partner. Others feel forced to break- up. Others live feeling ‘trapped’ and miserable, wondering what might have been if they had pursued their desires.

In my journeys through love and I life, I have experienced another way. It might not be the ‘right’ way for some, but for me, it feels more natural…

The Man Box and the Cult of Masculinity

14th May 2016

By Derrick Jensen B.Sc

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

The man box is full of proof. Except that there is no man box, the man box can never be filled, and real men don’t need proof.

Let’s start with Abraham and Isaac. You know the story. God tells Abraham to slit his child’s throat. Abraham ties up his son, raises the knife, and at the last moment God says it was a test. End of story. Lesson? Abraham shows, by his willingness to violate his own child, the proof of his worth. And Isaac learns that his father was willing to kill him rather than act against the cult of masculinity — against the rules of the man box.

There are many rules of the man box, even though there is no man box, and there are no rules. Why call it a box when it’s the way things are? And why call it a rule when it’s who you are?

A Brief History of the Rockefeller/Rothschild Empire

13th May 2016

“The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes.” – Felix Frankfurter, Supreme Court Justice, 1952

‘Rockefeller’ and ‘Rothschild’ are two of the most common names discussed in the conscious community, and if you’re like me, all of the talk about them (and the so-called ‘elite’ families in general) has made you want to know more about what they’re doing and how they came to power.

In the interest of satiating curiosity, I’d like to look briefly at the history of the Rockefeller and Rothschild families and, in doing so, provide a glimpse of what these families did to become so powerful that they essentially own the government.

Dreams, Timelines and Parallel Worlds

10th May 2016

By Zen Gardner

Like many of you, I have had dreams in my life, including recurring ones, that were clearly significant. I can’t say I’m an adept interpreter but many of us try to consciously get whatever message we think there may be for us from dreams.

Let’s face it, virtually one third of our lives are spent in the sleeping state yet we know our full consciousness never shuts off. This dream world is a significant one to know about that could teach us many things. That observer inside each of us is getting it all and we need to pay attention and learn.

Several times I have had a strong sense that it’s a parallel existence I was experiencing where perhaps my life had split off and continued on in some different direction, perhaps due to some fundamental decision that I made somewhere along the timeline leading to the one I’m now living in this currently shared 3D existence.

And that can happen every minute of our lives. Quite the mindblowing thought. Continue Reading – Dreams, Timelines and Parallel Worlds

The Business of War is the Cause of War

If you objectively and consistently observe the mainstream media and its interpretation of global events, its omissive and deceptive character soon becomes abundantly clear. This could hardly be called incompetence. The coverage, which is popularly called “news”, is in fact nothing but a propaganda mechanism, designed to persistently shape public opinion in favor of war.

Although most prefer to believe government propaganda is a thing of the past, history shows us that it is an inherent part of any wartime society, obscuring facts and motivations in favor of those who initiate — and benefit from — war.

Who benefits from war?

Do Lunar Cycles Really Influence Us?

7th May 2016

By Christina Lavers

The moon has long been a source of wonder and inspiration to humans. Often associated with the mysterious feminine energy and the dreamy, irrational side of life, it has been held responsible for inspiring visions, revelations, and even madness.

Back in the days before artificial light, humans couldn’t help but be directly affected by, and aware of, the varying stages of its cycles. When the moon was full, people could be more active as the light enabled them to engage in activities like hunting and celebrating, while the dark nights of the New Moon were more suited to quiet, more internally focused, reflective activities. Women especially experienced an intimate connection because our own body cycles closely mirrored those of the moon. Yet, as humanity has distanced itself from nature in general, living in increasingly artificial conditions, the synchronous relationship between humans and lunar cycles has diminshed.

Don’t Ask for Freedom – Live It!

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.” – Albert Camus

That quote pretty much sums it up, at least on one level. What’s fundamentally dystopic is that humanity petitions others for their freedom, as if it’s something to be granted by someone else in a position of authority over them. Not only is that counter-intuitive at a very deep level, but it reinforces the very paradigm from which they are trying to escape.

It’s very much like putting the cart before the horse – and then the horse complains about it and asks those who did it to change the situation. There may be a time to straighten out a misunderstanding and stupid mistake by pointing out the obvious in a particular situation, but ultimately it’s up to the bridled human to have some “horse sense” and just say no to the situation and be its true independent self and not cooperate with being yoked into bondage and just break free from the bridle and reins…and dump the saddle as well.

Why “Alternative” Media is the New Mainstream

4th May 2016

By Ethan Indigo Smith

The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox… There will be no highlights on the eleven o’clock news… The revolution will not be right back after a message… The revolution will not go better with Coke… Because the revolution will not be televised. ~ Gil Scott Heron

Let’s face it, the mainstream media, like CNN, Fox News etc. are great at reporting on the surface understandings of surface issues; car accidents and plane crashes, shootings and robberies; as well as reinforcing why our latest foreign war is good/necessary/the only way to peace and security. But if you really want to investigate and comprehend what is actually going on in the world, and why, you have to go past the mainstream.

Just look at the countless global events being reported by the underground news and compare it to the selective, politically-biased fear-fare of the mainstream; there is little journalistic integrity on display in the mainstream media, just the regurgitation of B.S. And lots of it. Even the surface events reported in the mainstream are often filtered, distorted and even blatantly constructed by media corporations that conceal their corporate and political alliances behind the guise of “news”.

Why Education Must Come Back to Nature

3rd May 2016

By Will Stanton

Guest writer for Wake Up World

“Unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can’t expect them to help protect and care for it.” – David Suzuki

Humanity has lost its connection with the Earth. As a species, we too easily distance ourselves from the war being waged on the environment. Most of us are opposed to the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and the oil pollution in our oceans, yet we continue to let it all happen. We care, but we don’t care enough to put a stop to all the madness. Why? Because we have lost touch with nature. Sadly, we do not feel the planet’s hurt. Her cries of protest are falling on deaf ears. For the most part, we have become anaesthetised by modern society and the trappings of economic pragmatism.

Don’t Ask, Just Plant — Taking Back Our Food Sovereignty with Guerrilla Gardening

1st May 2016

During both world wars, Victory Gardens were a staple throughout the United States, found everywhere from private residences to public lands and even the front lawns of city hall. Their purpose was simple: to reduce pressure from the public food supply during times of war. Victory Gardens also carried an unexpected perk, they helped boost morale during uncertain times by empowering gardeners through their contribution of labor and production of sorely needed fresh fruits and vegetables. Incredibly, these seemingly humble vegetable patches produced a staggering 41% of all fruits and vegetables consumed by the nation.

Jump to the present day and our system of food production would be all but unrecognizable to Victory Garden veterans. Instead of food self-sufficiency, we have homeowners persecuted for growing produce on their own property and children who think food comes packaged from the supermarket. Small farms are going bankrupt and being assimilated into industrial corporate farming operations. And when individuals push back against the hijacking of our food supply, they are met with fierce opposition, often stemming from local government.
